Cameron Diaz denies 'any association' with Jeffrey Epstein after being named in unsealed court docs
NEW YORK CITY: Actress Cameron Diaz has vehemently denied any association with the late convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein after her name surfaced in recently unsealed court documents.
The revelation came as part of a deposition given by Epstein accuser Johanna Sjoberg, whose testimony was linked to a 2015 defamation case filed by Virginia Giuffre against Ghislaine Maxwell.
Cameron Diaz denies ties to Jeffrey Epstein
In a statement to ET, a representative for the 51-year-old actress emphasized that Diaz had never met Epstein, been in the same place as him, or had any association with him.
"Cameron never met Jeffrey Epstein, nor was she ever in the same place as him or had any association with him whatsoever, regardless of the fact he may or may not have mentioned her name or implied that he knew her," the statement read.
The statement responded to Diaz's inclusion in over 900 pages of mostly unredacted court documents unsealed on January 3, which listed the names of more than 100 high-profile figures.
As reported by CBS News, most of the information has been previously reported, while some were accused of criminal wrongdoing, others, including Diaz, were mentioned without any allegations against them.
Cameron Diaz's name emerged in Sjoberg's deposition, where she claimed that Epstein boasted about close ties to celebrities. The list included Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Copperfield, Naomi Campbell, and others. During that deposition, Sjoberg was straight-up asked if she had met celebrities like Diaz, DiCaprio, Campbell and Cate Blanchett. To each of those questions, Sjoberg answered simply, "No." When asked if Epstein was simply "name-dropping" after hanging up, Sjoberg replied, "Yes."
The unsealed documents also highlighted more disturbing allegations, particularly those against Prince Andrew. Accused of criminal wrongdoing, the British royal settled a lawsuit with Giuffre in 2022, who accused him and Epstein of abusing her as a teenager, a claim Prince Andrew has consistently denied.
Prince Andrew's legal troubles
Prince Andrew found himself at the center of disturbing allegations, including claims of groping a woman in 2001 at Epstein's Manhattan townhouse. The accuser, Virginia Giuffre, who previously filed a lawsuit against the British royal, alleged a surreal incident involving a hand puppet that resembled Prince Andrew.
The unsettling allegation detailed in the unsealed documents revolves around an incident in 2001. According to Johanna Sjoberg's deposition, Prince Andrew allegedly groped a woman in Epstein's townhouse while a bizarre scenario unfolded involving a hand puppet. Giuffre claimed her breast was touched by a puppet resembling Prince Andrew, with Sjoberg stating that Maxwell took a photo of the alleged assault.
"It looked like him," Sjoberg recalled during her deposition. "And she (Maxwell) brought it down and presented it to him (Prince Andrew) and that was a great joke, because apparently it was a production from a show on BBC."
Sjoberg continued, revealing the disturbing details of the incident, stating, "I sat on Andrew's lap and they took the puppet's hands and put it on Virginia's breast, and so Andrew put his on mine."
These shocking allegations are part of the larger legal saga surrounding Prince Andrew, who settled a lawsuit in 2022 with Virginia Giuffre. Giuffre accused Prince Andrew and Epstein of abusing her as a teenager, allegations that the British royal has consistently denied.
