'Not going to win': Internet mocks Nikki Haley as she receives first senate endorsement ahead of Super Tuesday primaries
WASHINGTON, DC: Sen Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) became the first senator to openly support the candidacy of former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley for president on Friday, March 1, as per the New York Post.
In a statement made public by the Haley campaign, Murkowski said, "I’m proud to endorse Gov Nikki Haley. America needs someone with the right values, vigor, and judgment to serve as our next President—and in this race, there is no one better than her. Nikki will be a strong leader and uphold the ideals of the Republican Party while serving as a President for all Americans."
Nikki Haley gets her first endorsement from a senator
Since 2002, the 66-year-old Murkowski has held a Senate seat. In the trial for former President Donald Trump's impeachment due to his involvement in the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, she was one of seven Republican senators who cast guilty votes.
As the final GOP primary opponent standing against Trump, Haley has been critical of the outgoing president throughout the campaign, claiming that the 77-year-old is too old to hold office again and threatening to undermine Republican hopes in November due to his 'chaos.'
The former governor of South Carolina expressed her gratitude for Murkowski's support.
Haley said in a statement, "I’m grateful to Sen Murkowski for her support and leadership. Sen. Murkowski represents the best of Alaska — she is a trailblazer and a strong, independent voice who doesn’t bow down to the powers that be in Washington."
"As president, I will fight to make Alaskans — and all Americans — proud by restoring fiscal sanity, energy dominance, and limited government," she added.
Super Tuesday, March 5, is the day of Alaska's GOP presidential caucus. Haley has not yet won a GOP primary or caucus, and this will be the 15th state to hold primaries and caucuses.
