'Ready to assure the world': Iran's president confronts the nuke question as peace talks advance
TEHRAN, IRAN: As peace talks between the US and Iran near a breakthrough, the President of Iran has confirmed what the US President Donald Trump has been saying for a long time, that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not have nuclear weapons.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday, May 24, claimed that Iran is not “seeking nuclear weapons,” as per the Fox News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst.
The development came moments before Trump vowed not to let Iran have nuclear weapons and that the US will “not rush into a deal.”

According to an X post shared by Yingst, the Iranian President Pezeshkian is seeking stability in the region rather than a nuclear weapon.
"We are ready to assure the world that we are not seeking nuclear weapons. We are not seeking instability in the region," Pezeshkian said.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that ensuring Iran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon is the primary goal of the conflict for the US.
Trump vows that Iran will never have nukes
President Donald Trump, in a Truth Social post on Sunday, vowed that Iran could never have nuclear weapons after top GOP Senators openly voiced skepticism over the reported details of the delicate peace deal.
Trump’s post, suggesting that he would wait until the right agreement could be struck, came a day after he said his negotiators were “finalizing” the agreement.
“I have informed my representatives not to rush into a deal in that time is on our side. The Blockade will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed,” he said. “Both sides must take their time and get it right. There can be no mistakes!”
"They must understand, however, that they cannot develop or procure a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb," Trump added.
"I would like to thank, thus far, all of the countries of the Middle East for their support and cooperation, which will be further enhanced and strengthened by their joining the Nations of the historic Abraham Accords, and who knows, perhaps the Islamic Republic of Iran would like to join, as well!" he wrote.
Trump says talks with Iran 'opposite' of Obama's negotiations
Trump compared the talks to US-Iran negotiations under former President Barack Obama, which he said produced "One of the worst deals ever made by our Country."
Trump made the comment in a lengthy post to his Truth Social account, arguing that the current talks were the "opposite" of Obama's negotiations.
“One of the worst deals ever made by our Country was the Iran Nuclear Deal, put forth and signed into existence by Barack Hussein Obama and the rank amateurs of the Obama Administration,” Trump wrote in the post.
“It was a direct path to Iran developing a Nuclear Weapon. Not so with the transaction currently being negotiated with Iran by the Trump Administration - THE EXACT OPPOSITE, in fact,” Trump wrote.
