Tina Knowles says granddaughter Blue Ivy Carter is 'exactly' like Beyonce as a teenager
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tina Knowles has shared that her 14-year-old granddaughter Blue Ivy Carter is showing striking similarities to her daughter Beyonce during her teenage years in an interview with PEOPLE published on Saturday, May 23.
Knowles reflected on Blue Ivy’s recent public appearances, including her Met Gala debut, describing the experience as emotional and saying the teenager’s confidence and presence brought back memories of Beyonce during her early years of fame.

Knowles said, “She's just like her mama because she's a huge talent, and because she is very poised. I mean, the Met Gala, I couldn't do it.” She added that watching her on the red carpet made her feel proud because of how confidently the teenager carried herself and “how she knows exactly what she wants.”
Blue Ivy is the eldest child of Beyonce and Jay-Z, who are also parents to eight-year-old twins Rumi and Sir, while Knowles is also grandmother to Solange’s 21-year-old son, Daniel “Julez” Smith Jr. Although the Met Gala traditionally follows an 18-and-over policy, she attended the event alongside her mother.
She wore a white strapless Balenciaga gown paired with an unzipped jacket, sunglasses, and silver Jimmy Choo stilettos. Her appearance also marked Beyonce’s return to the Met Gala for the first time in 10 years.
“I think she looks so incredible,” the Grammy-winning singer said of Blue Ivy to Vogue. She also served as a co-chair for the Gala alongside Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and former editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.
The 71-year-old also previously reflected on the mother-daughter appearance during an interview on the '3rd Hour of Today,' admitting, “I got really emotional, shed a few tears.” She added, “It was kind of reminiscent. Beyonce started her first red carpet at 15, and Blue is 14, so just seeing her out there looking confident and beautiful. It was deja vu.”

Knowles previously celebrated Blue Ivy’s 14th birthday with an Instagram post shared on January 7, uploading a collage featuring 14 photographs of her granddaughter from different stages of her life. Alongside the images, she penned a heartfelt message for the teenager, affectionately referring to her as her “manager, makeup artist, fashion adviser, and my love” while commemorating the special occasion.
"I remember the day that we found out about you being in your mom‘s womb. We could not have been more excited! We were told that you were the size of a blueberry and that is where your name came from!" she began.
She further said, "We all prayed together for you every single day till you were 12 weeks old in your moms belly! Then we prayed individually until you arrived months later."
“It was apparent that you were a fighter from the beginning, and you talked very early. And you were always smart as a whip,” she wrote, while also recalling how they spent time together playing princess and Barbie dolls and praising her granddaughter’s “incredible” imagination.
The proud grandmother concluded the tribute by expressing admiration for Blue Ivy’s achievements and character, writing, “To say that I’m a proud grandmother is an understatement!” She added that despite all of her accomplishments and success, the teenager has remained “a very sweet, kind humble human being.”
