WASHINGTON, DC: Robert F Kennedy Jr was openly denounced by a number of the country's leading environmental organizations, which described the independent presidential candidate and former head of a green group as a 'dangerous conspiracy theorist and science denier' who would open the door for the reelection of former President Donald Trump, as per Politico.

Notably, the remarks made in a letter dated Friday, April 19, amounted to a scathing indictment of Kennedy, who headed the environmental group Waterkeeper Alliance until 2020.

Kennedy's beliefs, which questioned the efficacy of immunizations, have long caused a schism with other green groups.

Environmental groups call on voters to oppose RFK Jr

The environmental movement and Kennedy intensified their conflict when he entered the presidential contest.

Numerous activists argue that Kennedy's campaign might cost President Joe Biden the presidency by attracting young, environmentally conscious voters away from Joe Biden and aid in the reelection of Trump, who has pledged to undermine Biden's green policies.

The groups wrote in the letter, which was published in The New York Times, "With so much at stake, we stand united in denouncing RFK Jr’s false environmentalist claims. We can’t, in good conscience, let him continue co-opting the credibility and successes of our movement for his own personal benefit."

They added, "Any support for this Kennedy-in-name-only will inevitably result in a second Trump term and the complete erosion of vital environmental and social gains made to date."

The Sierra Club, Sunrise Movement, Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund, Earthjustice Action, Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, Climate Emergency Advocates, Food & Water Action, Friends of the Earth Action, NextGen America, 350 Action, and Climate Power were among the organizations that signed the letter.

Meanwhile, several national surveys show that Trump is leading Joe Biden, although the contest is close. Kennedy and other third-party candidates may be stealing Biden's support.

With third-party candidates in the race, Biden's electoral advantage over Trump among voters under 30 shrank, according to a Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics youth survey released on Thursday, April 18.

The green groups wrote in the letter, "He may have once been an environmental attorney, but now RFK Jr. is peddling the term ‘climate change orthodoxy’ and making empty promises to clean up our environment with superficial proposals. The truth is, by rejecting science, what he offers is no different than Donald Trump."

Internet takes jibes at green groups for calling on voters to oppose RFK Jr.

Several people on the internet slammed green groups as they described RFK Jr as a 'dangerous conspiracy theorist and science denier'.

A user wrote on X, "Green groups trying to control how people vote?" while one added, "They aren’t. Bobby gonna hurt Crooked Joe." A person also wrote, "I'm still thinking about voting for him."

A user added, "An actual Green group would not vote for Biden but the Green Party's @DrJillStein" whereas one mentioned, "lmao nothing is more fake than a left wing institution with a mission statement."

A user added, "Code for the Biden supporters!"
