WASHINGTON, DC: In an interview that aired on Tuesday, April 9, President Joe Biden stated that he is doubtful if he has the power to take executive action against migrants attempting to enter the US at the southern border, according to The New York Post.

Notably, Biden allegedly considered taking broad executive action in February, in response to an anticipated spike in unlawful border crossings. This action would have strengthened asylum regulations and closed the border when the number of illegal crossings was above a predetermined level. However, Biden never carried out this plan.

Joe Biden states he’s not sure he can shut down the border

In response to a question regarding a possible executive order on immigration and border security, Biden informed Enrique Acevedo of Univision, "Well, I suggested that. We’re examining whether or not I have that power."

The president stated that under the disastrous Senate bipartisan border agreement, which was fiercely opposed by several Republicans earlier this year, he 'would have that power' to close the border.

Biden stated, highlighting the significance of having the resource at his disposal, "When the border has over 5,000 people a day trying to cross, you can’t manage it, slow it up. There’s no guarantee that I have that power all by myself without legislation. And some have suggested I should just go ahead and try it."

He added, "And if I get shut down by the court, I get shut down by the court. But we’re trying to work that, work through that right now."

Notably, Politico revealed in March that 'less intense' media coverage of the migrant problem and a decline in migrant contacts from late last year's levels caused the White House to shelve a possible executive action on immigration.

Internet takes jibes at Joe Biden

Many internet users took a jibe at Joe Biden as he said that he is doubtful if he has the power to take executive action against migrants attempting to enter the US at the southern border.

A user wrote on X, "Trump shutdown the border with US presidential powers which Biden reversed. I’m sure Biden knows but doesn’t want to do anything about it," while one added, "He has the power to resign."

A person also wrote, "He doesn’t have enough power to step when he walks or to move his arms when he steps," whereas one mentioned, "He's always had the power, as has every President before him."

A person also stated, "He been in government for how long and he still doesn't understand the job of POTUS? Then why should be president?"
