8 celebrities who goofed up on social media: From Millie Bobby Brown to Ben Affleck
Celebs who committed social media faux pas: Justin Bieber, Kylie Jenner and more
It is often said that the internet never forgets, and there are certain celebrities who can definitely vouch for this popular saying. Stars like Ben Affleck and Sydney Sweeney have had some experiences that they probably wish never happened. However, those embarrassing moments have gone viral, much to the chagrin of the stars.
1. Millie Bobby Brown
Five years earlier, a teenaged Millie Bobby Brown made the mistake of promoting her line of skincare without using the original product herself. In September 2019, the 'Stranger Things' actress was accused of duping her fans as she did not use the Florence by Mills facewash - that she was promoting - on herself. Seeing no lather on her dry skin, the fans on the internet called her out. The actress later accepted her fault by writing on her social media, "I'm still learning the best way to share my routines as I get to know this space better - I'm not an expert," before adding, "I thought doing a quick video replicating my personal process for that night was okay, but that's not what was conveyed. I understand, I appreciate all of your feedback on this journey, please keep sharing your thoughts and I will too! [I love you] guys x," per Daily Mail.
2. Sydney Sweeney
Sydney Sweeney, despite being a multimillionaire star, cannot help but resort to a little piracy here and there. Once the 'Euphoria' star shared a screenshot of her enjoying a lazy afternoon at her place watching popular NBC drama 'Law & Order: Organized Crime'. However, soon fans started to notice that the website which was hosting the show was not a legitimate site, but rather some pirated one.
3. Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck landed himself in an unwanted internet pickle when he went viral in May 2021 for all the wrong reasons. Now, would you like other people to know who you are courting? Probably not! But the 'Good Will Hunting' star found himself in such a situation where a video of him trying to authenticate his identity made the rounds of internet. In 2021, Affleck was pursuing a TikToker named Nivine Jay after they connected on Raya (a celebrity dating app). However, after they matched, Jay unmatched with Affleck thinking it was a fake profile. She posted a TikTok explaining the situation, saying, "Thinking of the time I matched with Ben Affleck on Raya and thought it was fake so I unmatched him and he sent me a video on Instagram." In the same video, she also attached a video of Affleck sending a personal video message. In an attempt to prove his identity, the 'AIR' star recorded himself while speaking directly to the camera, "Nivine, why did you unmatch me? It's me." The TikToker later apologized to the actor for misunderstanding him.
4. Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner allegedly lied to her fans about cereals (yes, cereals!). In 2018, the makeup mogul confessed to her fans on social media that on the previous night, she finally had cereal with milk. Explaining that she never liked soggy breakfast, Kylie noted, "Last night I had cereal with milk for the first time. life changing. I always liked cereal dry I never bothered to put milk." Later, on Snapchat, she added, "So I think people were a little confused when I tweeted that last night was the first time that I ever tried milk with my cereal," before adding, "That is a fact. Everyone has their personal preference, I never preferred soggy cereal. I just really enjoyed my dry, crunchy cereal, and I know there are other people out there that agreed with me." "So I think just as a young child, always eating dry cereal and never wanting to sog up my cereal, I've just got used to it where I never wanted to do it until last night until Jordyn [Woods, her best friend] said I want some cereal and milk and I was like: "You know, tonight's the night and I'm going to try it,"" shared the mom-of-two. However, soon, the internet pointed out that it was not the first time that she was having milk with cereals as TMZ dug out that the reality TV star had milk with cereals on April 25, 2013 as well. At that time, she shared an image of a cereal bowl with milk, writing, "He keeps me healthy."
5. Bow Wow
Bow Wow, whose real name is Shad Moss, was also busted by the internet for an alleged lie. In May 2017, the rapper shared the image of a private plane with the caption, "Traveling to NY today" smh," hinting he was probably availing the service of the aircraft for his trip. However, as luck would have it, he was not travelling on that aircraft, but rather on a regular commercial service. And the worst of it? A passenger took a photo of him on the crowded aircraft. The original poster, @Al_Khee uploaded the photo on Twitter (now X), writing, "So this guy lil bow wow is on my flight to NY. But on Instagram he posted a picture of a private jet captioned "traveling to NY today" smh." Now that is an embarrassing moment for sure. In the later weeks, the comedian, however, tried to pass the entire situation as an elaborate prank.
6. Kris Jenner
Kris Jenner did what the Kardashians are famous (or someone may say, infamous) for. In 2014, the Kardashian matriarch published a cookbook with Chef Gordon Ramsay. While the act of poublishing a book didn't warrant censure, it was a promotional photo that caused much uproar. While uploading a photo of the duo, the matriarch worked (quite substantially) not only on her face but also on Ramsay's visage. It wouldn't have been an issue had the celebrity chef not uploaded the same photo without a filter. Thus, while Jenner's photo made their skin look like porcelain, Ramsay's unfiltered image gave the natural skin away, per E! News. Needless to say, the Kardashians were once again called out for their photo edits.
7. Bella Thorne
Bella Thorne was accused of lying to her fans about using faux fur while in reality the jacket she was wearing was made of real fur. In March 2016, Thorne shared a picture of her rocking a fur coat with the caption, "'When you're a tomboy and trade in sweats and kicks for boots and fur. (Dear internet Trolls, it's faux fur...) #ootd #shoes #basic #mirrorselfie #hellomarch #supertuesday #positivevibes #girlpower." However, after a little research, the internet found out that the Alice & Olivia Tierra Striped Fur Jacket that she was wearing was actually made of "super-soft rabbit and blue fox fur", making it real fur. The actress later apologized for her mistake, saying she was told that the jacket was faux fur when she was gifted the jacket during a photoshoot.
8. Justin Bieber
Looks like Bow Wow was not the only musician to have joked about owning a private jet. In December 2014, the 'Baby' singer posted a few images of a private jet on his Instagram, writing, "New jet for Christmas, and she's beautiful..." However, everyone did not immediately believe him with TMZ launching an investigation into the matter. The outlet later revealed that Bieber did not own the jet and just rented it.
