'AITA for breaking up with my boyfriend as I don't want to be a devoted Christian?'
A healthy relationship between two individuals depends on trust and giving space to each other. However, at times, people tend to forcefully implement certain things on their partners that end up ruining their bond forever.
Recently, a woman on Reddit's popular "Am I the A**hole" (AITA) forum shared that she broke up with her boyfriend as she does not want to be a devoted Christian.
Woman breaks up with boyfriend as she doesn't want to be devoted Christian
The 19-year-old original poster (OP) wrote in the AITA forum that she broke up with her 20-year-old boyfriend weeks ago because of the nagging and him trying to bring her to his church. She added that she grew up catholic and planned to stay catholic all my life.
However, she wrote, "I can’t say being religious is something I look for in anyone. I don’t even go to church. But he was something else, he told me "pick Catholic or Christian for God, not for me.""
She added, "But when I told him I wanted to be a catholic more than a christian he went nuts. He started saying Catholicism and Christianity should not be in the same branch and all that nonsense."
She further said that she told him she wanted to break up because of his crazy way of religious thinking.
She concluded the post, "I can’t stop thinking about it and I can’t help but think i’m in the wrong. Even just one reply would help, AITAH????"
Internet sides with the girl who made the AITA post
Several internet users sided with the OP who made the AITA post on Reddit and shared that she broke up with her boyfriend as she did not want to be a devoted Christian.
A user commented on the post, "NTA. You two are not compatible. Move on."
Another person asked, "Is he being a Christian for demanding you do what he says? He is a hypocrite. Good ridden to him."
One person stated, "NTA. Religious differences as a big cause of problems. Being raised in a Baptist church, I was never a believer and after that experience, I have not stepped foot in any church since I was 16. Never again for me."
Another added, "NTA. Anyone trying to force their faith on you (or anyone) is always the a******."
One individual stated, "NTA. Organized religion is the root of evil in these times. I'm dating a religious guy who understands that while I believe in God, I will not conform to church doctrine ever again. (ex catholic)."
While one commented, "NTA. This is the start of a controlling and religiously abusive relationship. You were right to break up with someone who forces you to chose and then behaves like a psycho when you don’t do what he wants."
