'AITA for calling out a woman in public for cutting the line at a Costco pharmacy?'
A young man has taken to Reddit to share a story about his not-so-pleasant encounter with a woman as he went to a Costco pharmacy in Canada to get a Covid shot.
Taking to Reddit’s 'Am I the A**hole' (AITA) forum, the Asian man wrote, “I filled out a couple sheets of documentation and history info, and I lined up behind someone else to hand it in. The woman in question was leaning on a box of vitamins nearby.”
The original poster (OP), under the username Doge________________, said that the woman appeared to be “browsing the aisle endcaps. As I was next in line, she walked in front of me, slammed her Costco card down, and turned away.”
Woman labels OP ‘rude’ after he calls her out
Her actions left the man and an elderly couple confused as well as shocked. He then "politely told her that the line was here."
But when he told the woman about her inappropriate behavior, she “freaked out. I am a much taller guy at 6ft 2, and she was smaller so she started to back away while calling me rude.”
The Reddit user claimed that he tried to explain to the woman about the line but she did not stop calling him rude.
Pharmacist makes OP wait for 1.5hrs for Covid shot
“Finally, the pharmacist came out and basically asked what was the problem and separated us. I got to hand in the form and took a seat. Then, the pharmacist made me wait 1.5 hours before getting a shot, she spent most of the time sitting there and talking with her friends,” he mentioned.
Concluding his post, the man noted the pharmacist’s action “made me question whether I was right or wrong. I’m not sure if I should have been the bigger person and let them first?”
Redditors say OP should have complained to Costco management
Fellow Redditors supported the man in the comment section with one saying, “NTA. But as to the pharmacist, I would go to the manager of the Costco in question, tell them exactly what happened, and let the manager know that you did not appreciate waiting for 1.5 hours while the pharmacist yakked with her friends as it is a place of business, not a social gathering.”
Another user wrote, “NTA waiting for 1.5 hours is absurd and you need to complain to management.”
One commented, “NTA - but I’d go off even harder on the pharmacist making me wait 1.5 hours for a f****** vaccine while they socialized with their friends.”
A Redditor said, “NTA. Cutting is rude and then she gas lit you about you being rude?”
Someone else posted, “NTA and shame on the pharmacist! I would have made a fuss. A little about me: I am Chinese-American, 48F, born and raised in the Midwest. I have a deep, Midwestern man-voice. It doesn't match my physical appearance so it often makes people do a double-take. While I hate that my voice sounds so masculine, I recognize that it has spared me from a lot of racism, because not only do I not sound Asian, I also don't sound like a woman (I am cisgender). This brings me to my point: I am treated like an Asian woman when people have not heard me speak. If I am the last person standing in a line (and I'm talking about where there is an actual clear queue), people will just cut in front of me. It happens all the f**king time. It's almost always men. One interesting thing that I've found is that when I bark at them, usually they don't try to make excuses. The look on my face says: you and I both know exactly what happened here. Most people simply apologize and get in the back of the line. There's no way I would have let that pharmacist pull that s**t, and you shouldn't, either. After it became clear she was just making me wait around intentionally, I would have gone full ‘Karen'.”
“NTA. It sounds like it wasn't at all clear that she was waiting, but she could have said so, politely, when you joined the queue. Were you getting the Pfizer vax? IIRC, It's kept frozen; maybe that was the reason for the delay?” a comment read.
