'AITA for making my wife angry by not surprising her with a birthday trip despite financial agreement?'
Every married couple wishes to travel abroad at least once after they tie the knot to make their marriage memorable. Many couples even travel multiple times, but it is not feasible for everyone since it is expensive. However, at times, a partner does not seem to understand this and ends up making a fuss about it.
Recently, a man on Reddit's popular 'Am I the A*****e' forum shared that he ended up making his wife angry by not surprising her with a birthday trip due to financial constraints despite her previous understanding of their situation.
Man upsets wife after he doesn't surprise her with travel tickets
The man wrote in the AITA forum that he has been married for five years to his wife, who he had met nearly 10 years ago. He added that she loves traveling a lot, especially on the date of her birthday.
He wrote, "Last year we went to Maceio, Brazil, and had a great time. In may we had a month long travel to Europe, where we visited some greek island, Athens, a bunch of spanish cities and París."
He continued, "Her birthday is in a few days and we had some long talks about traveling. Europe left us in debt, and some health issues left us with almost no savings. Also, we want to have children this year and we need some medical assistance and it also costs money. I told her that, maybe this year we cannot afford to travel anywhere, she didn't like it but she agreed."
He then wrote in the post that his wife had snapped a few days ago. He mentioned that she is furious because she now has to stay at home for her birthday, and it doesn't matter to her what they had earlier discussed.
He mentioned, "She never said she don't wanna travel and that me, as her husband, should know what she wants for her birthday and should have known that she wanted to travel either way and surprised her with some tickets.
He concluded the post, "I really don't know how to defuse the situation. I offered to buy some last-minute tickets anywhere but now she doesn't want it and said I'd just be doing it because she forced me. Am I an a*****?"
Internet supports man after he couldn't surprise his wife with a trip on her birthday
Many internet users showed support towards the man who made the AITA post on Reddit and wrote that he made his wife angry by not surprising her with travel tickets on her birthday.
A user commented on the Reddit post, "NTA How does she propose finding the money to travel? Also, maybe you don't have the money right now for monthlong vacations thousands of kilometers away but, maybe, if you have the money, you could talk about traveling a few days in your country or the country next to yours."
A person added, "NTA - She just sounds spoilt. I’d love to hear her side of the story because surely, as a grown-a** adult at her big age, she wouldn’t be sulking like this…"
Another user wrote, "NTA. Do you really want to have children with her? She sounds like a gold digger."
A person further added, "She may "like to travel" but apparently she does not make "like to travel" money. Welcome to Real Life, where we rarely get what we want. Time for wife to grow up and get a job. NTA. Obviously."
