WASHINGTON: The campaign of Donald Trump believes that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has tarnished his political career by 'tainting his name' during the 2024 presidential race.

Referring to DeSantis' decline in the polls and his choice to turn against the former president throughout the campaign trail, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung told DailyMail.com, "He did this to himself."

Ron DeSantis trail by several points behind Donald Trump

With the former president dominating the rest of the field and often receiving almost half of the vote, DeSantis is behind Trump by several dozen points in the primary.

Steven Cheung believes that if DeSantis is not in politics after his gubernatorial term ends in Florida in 2024, then he can become a 'Pizza delivery driver or Democrat surrogate for Joe Biden, since he's acting like one of them already'.

DeSantis's 2018 gubernatorial primary victory was aided by Trump, who also helped him get national recognition. This was further enhanced when Florida became one of the top states in easing COVID-19 limitations.

However, Trump believes that DeSantis' decision to run for president this year rather than waiting until he was out of the running was "traitorous" and "disloyal."

When contacted by DailyMail.com, a campaign representative for DeSantis rejected the charge, citing the former president's persistent refusal to participate in debates thus far in the 2024 primary cycle.

Internet reacts as Trump campaign says Ron DeSantis has future as 'pizza delivery driver'

Many people criticized Trump's campaign for passing such a remark on Ron DeSantis. A user wrote, "Trump lost with the full support of everyone currently supporting DeSantis. Make the calculation, that's it" while one added, "To be fair, Ron looks like he would be an excellent pizza delivery driver. He'd be on time, forcing smiles all over the place and politely accept each weak tip."

Another user added, "And americans will vote for this man?" while one added, "Trump should read Emily Post."
