TAMPA, FLORIDA: A Florida man allegedly fatally stabbed and beat his girlfriend and her 4-year-old daughter in a mobile home.
Angel Gabriel Cuz-Choc, 31, is charged with two counts of murder in the first-degree with a deadly weapon in the April 24, 2018, slayings of Amalia Coc Choc de Pec, 36, and Estrella Anastasia Pec Coc, 4, both of Tampa. The slayings occurred at a mobile home in the 3700 Block of Sumner Road in Dover, outside Tampa.
Amalia Pec found dead with bloody hand print on mobile home
Accoording to a press release the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office recieved a call regarding a deceased female. The woman's bloody handprint was found smeared on the side of the mobile home, which authorities said suggested she had been fighting for her life and attempting to flee the violence, Law&Crime reporteds.
Amalia was discovered dead in the backyard "in her own puddle of blood," with the girl deceased inside the mobile home. The suspect had fled, starting a manhunt that lasted for eighteen hours on April 25.
The suspect was arrested by the sheriff's office, which released body camera footage, after a police dog discovered him nearby in the woods.
“This murderer will now face the full weight of the criminal justice system for these heinous and vile murders that he committed against these two innocent victims,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a news conference.
Neighbor describe Amalia and Estrella's murder as 'pure evil'
Estrella’s father lives in Guatemala and is not a Cuz-Choc family member, but he did have a relationship with the girl’s mother. Suspect also recently entered the US illegally. Little is known about Cuz-Choc's background as investigators are still working through the early stages of the probe. Officials are also trying to figure out if his girlfriend or her daughter entered the country illegally too.
The sheriff commended his officers for quickly apprehending Cuz-Choc in such a tense area. Knowing the suspect had the upper hand, police set up a perimeter as far away as three miles.
According to officials, a neighbor reported that they had heard a woman scream earlier in the day, but they chose not to pursue the matter. “I am taken back by the level of pure evil that has transpired when our suspect brutally murdered an innocent woman and a young child," the neighbor added, Blaze Media reports.
Angel Gabriel Cuz-Choc admits to gruesome murders
It wasn’t until evening that Amalia's roommate went back into the mobile home and made the horrific discovery. The police used a helicopter and bloodhounds to locate the suspect. Deputies urged residents to stay inside and keep an eye out for anything suspicious, like open windows or unlocked vehicles.
At the time of his arrest, Cuz-Choc was in possession of cash and a cell phone, and he attempted to contact his brother, employer, and acquaintances, all of whom sheriff’s dispatchers located and spoke with throughout the night, and all of whom responded with “absolutely not." “They all declined that offer and denied that help and said, ‘You’re not getting us involved,'” the sheriff said. “So, great job by this community. Luckily, because of those efforts, we’re not sitting here announcing that someone else has gone to jail for harboring a fugitive.”
“He couldn’t get up and go anywhere, and there wasn’t a square inch of this 2.5-mile, almost 3-mile circumference that we didn’t have covered,” he added.
In interviews with detectives following his arrest, Cuz-Choc admitted to both killings.
