Anna Faris reveals challenges of co-parenting her son Jack with ex-husband Chris Pratt on 'Today'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During July 15 appearance on 'Today', 'Scary Movie' alum Anna Faris discussed her parenting challenges with co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Justin Sylvester, reflecting on how fast her son Jack, from her marriage to Chris Pratt, has matured.
Pratt and Faris were married for eight years before publicly announcing their separation in August 2017.
When did Anna Faris have a baby?
Faris had her son Jack on August 25, 2012. The baby spent a month in intensive care before being able to go home.
"He's amazing. He's 11," Faris replied when Kotb asked about him.
"You miss it sometimes when you look at old photos," she reflected, hinting at her son's transition into a new phase of his life.
“I think I’m really loving this age. Although, he told me that he thinks he has an armpit hair. So, it’s happening,” the star said.
Adding to the preteen's embarrassment, after making a light-hearted remark about Jack going through puberty, 'Mom' star Faris playfully teased him further.
When Kotb voiced her parental worries, Faris disclosed a regular behavior of Jack's that occasionally gets on her nerves.
“‘Mom, where’s my backpack?’” Faris shared, imitating her son. “When it’s like, right there … It’s like, how do I teach him how to just look?”
Faris detailed Jack’s health challenges in her 2017 memoir, 'Unqualified'.
She recounted how Jack arrived nine weeks premature and spent a month in the NICU, a period she described as "emotionally exhausting."
Anna Faris teases son during NBC gift basket surprise on 'Today' show
Just when it seemed Faris had finished gently teasing her son after Kotb brought up the Summer Olympics and noted her fandom of the US women’s gymnastics team, Faris found another opportunity to playfully tease Jack.
This happened when Kotb presented her with an NBC gift basket filled with 2024 Paris Olympic swag, and Faris jokingly singled out a pair of socks from the gift basket.
“These would not fit Jack. He has, like, duck paddle for feet. … But they’ll fit me!” she shared.
While Faris has evidently embraced the "I don't care if I embarrass my kid" phase of parenting, it's heartening to hear the star discuss Jack in such an upbeat and relaxed manner.
“The pediatric neurosurgeon sat Chris [Pratt] and me down to tell us that Jack had some severe brain bleeding and there was a chance that he could be developmentally disabled,” she wrote, according to People.
“I was in complete shock ... So Chris and I did what we could, which was hold hands and hope and face it together.”
After spending approximately a month in the NICU, Jack was able to go home with his parents.
At the time of Faris's book, she described Jack as a cheerful and healthy 5-year-old, though he did have minor vision and leg muscle concerns.
