Anna Kendrick embraces her identity as 'childless cat lady' while discussing traditional family roles
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a candid discussion about her life choices, Anna Kendrick has fully embraced the title of "childless cat lady."
The 39-year-old has been open about her views on motherhood. In her bestselling 2016 memoir, 'Scrappy Little Nobody', Kendrick stated, "Motherhood isn't for me."
Anna Kendrick critiques traditional views on parenthood
In a conversation with Flow Space about their story published on Wednesday, October 16, Anna Kendrick appeared to resonate with the sentiment as she talked about a phrase often used by men in the context of desiring children.
“I was thinking recently about a phrase I've heard men say about their desire to have children in the future, and it occurred to me: I don't think I've ever heard a woman say that," the 'A Simple Favor' actress commented. "And the thing they'll say is, ‘Yeah, maybe one day — a couple of kids running around.’"
She went on to say, "I don't think I've ever heard a woman say that! Because it paints a certain visual, yes?"
The "certain visual" Kendrick referred to is one where "you come home at the end of your workday, put down your proverbial briefcase, make yourself a cocktail, and see a woman in a Laura Ashley dress out in the yard with a couple of kids—in white!—running around."
She then posed a rhetorical question to the men, asking, "Um, where are you in that, sir?"
"I don't know, there's something about that phrase that really starts to rub me the wrong way," Kendrick added. "It's like when I hear husbands say they want to ‘help out’ with the kids. And it's two working parents!"
Anna Kendrick embraces identity as a 'childless cat lady'
Although Anna Kendrick often feels the urge to share her opinions with her friends who are mothers, she doesn't believe it's appropriate for her to participate in that specific conversation.
She went on to say, "And I always want to kind of say something, and then I'm just like, ‘Well, I'm the childless cat lady. I'm not gonna say s**t.’”
In response to JD Vance's comments about "childless cat ladies," Kendrick told The Guardian, "I don’t ever think about having kids, so I guess I spend just as little time thinking about weaponizing that."
She also conveyed to the media that upon adopting a pet cat, she reflected, "Why would anyone trust me with a kid?”
Internet supports Anna Kendrick's childfree choice
Once Anna Kendrick's decision not to have children made its way to Facebook, users quickly reacted.
One user voiced support for Kendrick, stating, "Childfree is the way to be."
Another added, "Motherhood or parenthood isn't for everybody I don't see a problem with not having children."
The third commentator remarked, "Nobody has to defend their decision to not have kids or to even have them. She doesn’t owe anyone an explanation."
"Amen Anna! I'm with you! Best decision EVER!" praised a fan.
A person said, "At least she knows this rather than have children and neglect them."
Another chimed in, "You, are You! Keep it up!"
