Hopkins said at the time that he knew what Hannibal sounded like as soon as he read the script. “I knew what the character looked like,” he said. “The voice had come to on the first reading.”

Hopkins also revealed to the publication how Foster, who has been honest about her mixed feelings about acting, told him that she was not sure if she wanted to continue in the industry.

He said that he respected her healthy cynicism and pragmatism.

“She’s got that nice healthy cynicism about it. It’s a job,” he said, quoting actor Robert Mitchum. “When he was asked, ‘Why did you act?’ He said, ‘It beats work.’ I love that. That’s good. Beats working.”

Foster has since kept busy as an actor, appearing in 'Nyad' and the HBO series 'True Detective.'
