Bill Maher and Seth MacFarlane contemplate AI's role in the evolution of social media and medicine
"Social media is on the cusp of evolving into something else. I don't know what it is. AI? Well, yeah," noted MacFarlane, reflecting on the imminent transformation technology is poised to undergo.
Maher, ever the inquisitive host, probed further, "Does that concern you?"
Subsequently, the 'Family Guy' creator remarked, "It does in some ways and it doesn't in others. AI for enterprises like for medicine, I think, is going to be a wonderful thing," hinting at the dichotomy of his thoughts.
"I couldn't agree more. Being almost 68 years old, trust me, I am putting all the chips, and I think a lot of doctors said..." chimed in Maher, his tone indicating a cautious optimism.
Bill Maher thinks AI is a 'wonderful tool that's going to change the game'
Maher further mentioned, "Doctors that I have spoken to seem to feel the same way. That's it. Like AI is a tool. It's not going to replace us. It's not going to replace innovation when it comes to medicine. But it's a wonderful tool that's going to change the game."
He added, "We're not going to have to sit there and wait for whatever the hell computations need to get done to come up with a new medicine. It's going to take three years; the AI can do it in three seconds. It's a very different development for an enterprise like that than it is for entertainment. We should be very scared."
Their exchange underscores the dual nature of AI, a potent force that holds promise in revolutionizing fields like medicine while simultaneously posing challenges, particularly within the realm of entertainment and social media, as it raises concerns about privacy invasion, the proliferation of misinformation, and the loss of authentic human expression.
