Bill Maher takes a brutal jab at people who criticize MrBeast's philanthropic work in 'New Rule' segment
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bill Maher expressed his bewilderment at the criticism faced by individuals like MrBeast, who actively contribute to causes such as helping those with disabilities and providing clean drinking water to villages in need.
On the recent episode of 'Real Time With Bill Maher' titled 'Mr Beast is helping wrong', the host found it challenging to comprehend the negativity directed at those engaged in genuinely beneficial actions.
He pointed out the irony of lazy critics condemning acts of kindness, labeling them as "f**king idiots" for lacking common sense.
Bill Maher talks about how MrBeast faces criticism for his philanthropic work
Maher used MrBeast, a highly popular YouTuber with 38 billion views, as an example to illustrate his frustration with such unwarranted criticism.
He captured the delighted responses from people who got their much-needed cataract surgery because of the Youtuber, but some viewed him as a "performative altruist."
Maher noted how A Washington Post reporter took to X (formerly Twitter) to write, "What needs curing is society's view of the disabled," and that BuzzFeed concurred with this sentiment, disregarding MrBeast's good deeds, stating, "MrBeast seems to regard disability as something that needs to be solved."
Despite the laughter from the audience and guests, Maher strongly asserted that "disability is something that needs to be solved."
He then said, "And what truly needs curing is blindness. Here's how I know this. The newly sighted people are cheering, not booing, because, MrBeast, whoever the f**k that is, just cured them and you didn't do s**t."
"You know the expression, 'S**t or go blind'? You did neither," expressed Maher
The 'Real Time' host then noted, "I tell ya, I don't get the woke. They love nothing more than being a victim, except when they really are one, and then they tell you, 'I am not, go f**k yourself'."
Bill Maher bewildered over how some people condemn positive acts
Moving on, Maher defined how MrBeast funded 100 wells in Africa, providing clean drinking water for half a million people. However, the YouTuber apparently faced criticism from a charity named Face Africa, accusing him of being a white male figure with a massive platform seeking attention.
Bill Maher expressed frustration at this condemnation, highlighting the urgency of addressing essential needs like access to clean water, saying, "You know what else is frustrating? Dying of thirst."
"How did we get to this weird place?" raged Maher, adding, "That positive difference in the world makes you the problem?"
He further pointed out how this mindset even permeates the government, citing the NIH's proposed amendment to eliminate the term "disability" as it implies people are flawed and need fixing.
Maher noted, "Let me take this moment to go on the record. If I am blind, deaf, or paralyzed, don’t praise me – fix me!"
