LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Boy Meets World’ alum Danielle Fishel has revealed about her recent cancer diagnosis.

On the latest episode of her ‘Pod Meets World’ podcast, the star shed light on the nature of the disease. “I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for Ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a form of breast cancer,” she said.

Fishel added at the beginning of the August 19 episode, “It’s very very very early, it’s technically stage zero.”

Danielle Fishel was hesitant to share about her cancer diagnosis

The 43-year-old explained about her “high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion” and her plans to get rid of it through surgery.

“I’ve had to make a lot of decisions over the last couple of days,” Fishel said while sharing that initially, she didn’t want to go public with her condition.

However, after reading author Glennon Doyle, she changed her mind as the writer suggests that women should help others in the beginning or during the “messy middle.”

Fortunately, the actress was able to find out about the DCIS at an early stage while going through her annual mammogram appointment, per Variety.

“They found it so, so, so early that I’m going to be fine. So, I want to share this because I hope that it will encourage anyone to get in there,” said Fishel.

What is Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)?

According to Mayo Clinic, the "Ductal carcinoma in situ is a very early form of breast cancer. In ductal carcinoma in situ, the cancer cells are confined inside a milk duct in the breast. The cancer cells haven't spread into the breast tissue. Ductal carcinoma in situ is often shortened to DCIS. It's sometimes called noninvasive, preinvasive or stage 0 breast cancer."

"DCIS is usually found during a mammogram done as part of breast cancer screening or to investigate a breast lump. DCIS has a low risk of spreading and becoming life-threatening. However, it does require an evaluation and a consideration of treatment options," the source further explained.

Danielle Fishel's ‘Boy Meets World’ colleagues' take on DCIS

Topanga Lawrence of the ‘Boy Meets World’, shared advice with fellow women, “If it’s time for your appointment, if you’ve never had an appointment before, get in there. If you have to find out that you have cancer, find out when it’s at stage 0, if possible.”

Fishel's co-hosts Rider Strong and Will Friedle, who also featured in the teenage sitcom 'Boy Meets World', addressed her recent diagnosis. “We love you, and you know that we’ve got you. Whatever you need, we’re here,” Friedle said. “You are going to be fine, and you might have some sucky days coming up, but we’re here for you,” he added.
