CORDES LAKES, ARIZONA: The 93-year-old roommate of the woman who was arrested in Cordes Lakes was discovered in the house following a "violent death," as per the authorities.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office released a press release on Friday, February 16, stating that Bridget Nelson, 59, was placed under arrest in connection with the murder of Carl Miller.

Carl Miller's body discovered during a welfare check

Deputies discovered Miller's body during a welfare check after she hadn't been heard from in several days, prompting an acquaintance to contact the sheriff's office.

According to the deputy conducting the welfare check, Nelson conveyed that Miller "had left town," as reported by YCSO, as per 12News.

"The deputy followed up with the initial caller to relay the story told by Bridget Nelson," YCSO said. "The initial caller told the deputy that the victim’s truck was still in the driveway, which was apparently inoperable."

Subsequently, deputies returned to the residence to question Nelson. The deputies "noticed through a window a man lying on the ground motionless" during that visit.

After multiple requests, Nelson complied with the deputies' orders to leave the house, according to YCSO.

"YCSO detectives and evidence technicians entered the home to find that the victim had been deceased for at least a day and initial evidence showed the victim had died a violent death with his wounds indicating foul play," YCSO said.

Nelson was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. He was lodged in the Yavapai County Jail.

Richard Bennaugh accused of manslaughter after shooting roommate

Maryland resident Richard Bennaugh is being charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of his roommate, Domonique Scott Hayes.

Allegedly, Bennaugh shot Hayes during a dispute over a remote control, asserting that he felt threatened as Hayes approached him with knives.

Last week, the incident took place, prompting a police response to the scene. Bennaugh asserted that he initially ignored Hayes, but Hayes continued to demand the location of the remote control.

Subsequently, Bennaugh aimed a handgun at Hayes, who initially refrained from shooting him. Hayes then fled to his third-floor room, while Bennaugh assumed he hadn't shot Hayes.

He later visited a friend's home and purchased marijuana before returning home to smoke. Bennaugh disposed of the cartridge casings and cleaned the damaged walls.
