Caitlyn Jenner hails SCOTUS ruling against Title IX change that expands protections to trans students
WASHINGTON, DC: Former Olympic decathlete and Fox News contributor Caitlyn Jenner praised the US Supreme Court for "overturning" Title IX changes, introduced by the federal administration under President Joe Biden, on Friday, August 16.
Title IX is a 50-year-old law that prohibits education entities that receive federal funds from discriminating on the basis of sex. In April, the Biden administration expanded the rules to include protections from discrimination for transgender students, as per CBS News.
The changes took effect on August 1, but only in less than half of the states due to legal challenges against the expansion in 26 states.
Two groups of states have mainly challenged three provisions.
The first recognizes that Title IX's prohibition on sex discrimination covers gender identity, the second broadens the definition of "hostile-environment harassment" to include harassment based on gender identity, and the third clarifies that an educational institution violates the law when it prohibits transgender students from using bathrooms and other facilities consistent with their gender identity.
On Friday, the SCOTUS rejected the administration's request to allow less controversial parts of the regulation, many of which have nothing to do with gender identity, to take effect in states where it has been challenged.
In its unsigned opinion, the court stated, "All Members of the Court today accept that the plaintiffs were entitled to preliminary injunctive relief as to three provisions of the rule, including the central provision that newly defines sex discrimination to include discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity."
The SCOTUS' Friday ruling does not affect states that did not challenge the changes made to the regulation.
Caitlyn Jenner celebrates as SCOTUS maintains block on entirety of Biden administration's Title IX rule changes
Caitlyn Jenner, who won a gold medal in the 1976 Montreal Olympics and in 2015 came out as a trans woman, has ironically long fought for the non-inclusion of transgender athletes, citing concern for biological males entering and dominating women's sports.
Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Friday evening, she shared, "The SCOTUS just overturned the Title IX rewrite allowing biological boys into girls sports. This is great news for girls and women’s sports all across the nation!"

In March, Jenner had also backed New York county's effort to ban transgender athletes from competing against biological women.
At the time, she stated, "You have to compete in the biological sex that you were born. This is critical to protecting the integrity of competition in women's sports."

"Another victory for SCOTUS and Women's sports, and most of all, a victory for America!" exclaimed a person. Someone else remarked, "Thank you Caitlyn for being the voice of reason in this situation."
One more claimed, "We are moving in the right direction!"

However, there were some who pointed out the fallacy in Jenner's statement as the SCOTUS hadn't actually overturned the changes and had rather refused the administration from implementing any part of the new Title IX in states where it had been challenged.
One wrote, "Didn't actually yet overturn it. Just allowed injunction to stay in place while it gets hashed out in lower courts. You'll need to continue the fight."
Another said, "Did not overturn, just continued the hold that has been in place. Christ, get it right if you’re going to yakk about it," with an individual succinctly put it, "This is about a stay."
