Camryn Herriage: TikToker fighting for life in ICU after hit-and-run accident that killed her roommate
DALLAS, TEXAS: TikTok star and recent Texas Tech graduate has been fighting for survival on a ventilator for almost a month after her roommate was killed in a hit-and-run accident.
A car struck Camryn Herriage, 23, her roommate, and a few of her other friends while they were waiting at a light on February 11 in Dallas, according to Fox 4 Dallas,
Casie Campanello criticized hit-and-run driver for her 'careless act'
According to Dallas Police, Herrage's apartment is only two blocks from the scene of a pile-up crash that happened when a Ford pickup truck hit the back of their vehicle.
Herriage's roommate Sara House died in the collision, while the TikTok star and her four friends were taken to a nearby hospital, the station reported.
After receiving her degree from Texas Tech University in December, the 23-year-old moved into an apartment in Dallas close to her close-knit social circle, with whom she frequently filmed TikToks.
Her older sister Casie Campanello criticized the hit-and-run driver for her "careless act."
“Literally, a careless act put us in a situation that changed all of our lives,” Campanello told the outlet. “We are very helpless and just have to stay strong for her, but it’s very difficult to see,” she added.
For weeks now, her sister has been waiting for her to wake up by her bedside,
“I know everybody, we all cry every day over it but try not to do it in the room with her,” Campanello said.
Truck driver identified and arrested
Citing an arrest warrant affidavit, the television station reported that witnesses saw the truck driver get out of the car "wearing a small black dress and white clubbing shoes."
According to the affidavit obtained by Fox 4, the driver—later identified as 27-year-old Carmen Guerrero—appeared to be "extremely intoxicated" and made her escape on foot. Guerrero's wallet, which she left in the truck, helped the police find her.
She is being held in the Dallas County Jail on charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to Campanello, her primary concern is her little sister's recovery rather than the investigation or forgiving Guerrero.
She said, "When she came out of her first surgery, the surgeon told us he told us he never saw anyone make it to the hospital with her injury. So she has a purpose.”
In addition to manslaughter, Guerrero is accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
