In November 2021, Janice first felt a lump in her neck but she thought nothing of it. However, the singer realized in March 2022, that the lump was still there.

"It was larger and it was very hard," she explained in a TikTok video at the time. Following her hospital visit, Janice was diagnosed with a rare malignant tumor called sarcoma.

On July 22, 2022, she was declared cancer-free after undergoing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

In January, Janice shared with her Instagram followers that she faced a recurrence of cancer, ultimately leading her to hospice care on January 10.

Speaking to People at the time, Janice said she was entered after facing difficulty breathing in the ICU.

Janice, who dedicated her final song 'Dance You Outta My Head' to her son Loren as a gift to remember, transferred all her tracks to his name, so all proceeds would go to him.

"Everyone knows that I've been battling cancer for a while and I wanted to put this song out, and just go stream it. I hope you like it. I don't know if I'm going to be around even when the song comes out, so let's just put it out. And I did," she said.

"The idea for the song, 'Dance You Outta My Head,' came about last spring," she said.

"I song banked it and made a little voice note of it and as time went on, we would bounce around in the car to it every now and then," she said of her and Loren's hang out being an inspiration to the making of the song.
