BARNEGAT, NEW JERSEY: During the trial of Christopher Gregor, an expert testified in court that his six-year-old son from New Jersey experienced "fatal heart stress" allegedly after the suspect forced him to run on the treadmill.

Forensic pathologist Dr Thomas Andrew detailed the circumstances surrounding the death of Corey Micciolo, son of 31-year-old Gregor, who has been accused of killing his son.

What did Dr Thomas Andrew's report state?

According to Dr Andrew, the victim had multiple blunt force injuries on his chest and abdomen, cuts and contusions to his liver, and a laceration to his heart before he died in April 2021.

Dr Andrew said that Micciolo showed signs of "stress cardiomyopathy," a heart condition brought on by ongoing stress during the trial in court this week when Gregor was seen crying.

According to Andrew, this “suggests there was ongoing physiological stress most likely due to mistreatment or abuse,” according to Daily Express US.

A video showing Gregor making his son run on a treadmill in a New Jersey gym and repeatedly picking him up when the boy gets thrown off the machine was one of the most startling discoveries made during the trial so far.

Micciolo died less than two weeks after the video was recorded.

Soon after his mother dropped him off at his father's house, he was taken to the hospital in an unconscious state.

Corey Micciolo's mother Breanna stated in court that Gregor had met his son, just a year before his death. She added that Corey had cuts and bruises when he got home after meeting his father.

According to Dr Andrew, Micciolo's blunt force injuries "by another person" were the cause of his death.

The expert added that Micciolo also sustained two serious injuries to his liver and a "pulmonary contusion" to his lung, which resulted in internal bleeding.

Dr Andrew stated that the boy's fatal wound was "near the tip" of his heart.

“The immediate cause of death was blunt force injuries on the day he died. But stress cardiomyopathy suggests there was ongoing physiological stress, most likely due to mistreatment or abuse,” Andrew remarked in court.

Breanna Micciolo reported 'monster' dad's abuse several times

Corey Micciolo's mother claimed that Child Protective Services disregarded her calls after she reported multiple pleas to stop his "monster" dad’s abuse more than a year ago.

Dr Andrew said, "My concern was not so much the severity of the bruising, but the pattern and distribution as being suggestive of child abuse," after showing a number of photos showcasing Corey's purported abuse.

According to Corey's mother, Gregor has been abusing her son on a regular basis since they first met when Corey was five years old. She expressed her suspicion that the father used the treadmill as a means of punishment when they visited.

Since then, she has created a Facebook page named "Justice for Corey", on which she begs for assistance in her case while sharing graphic images of her son's injuries.

Internet demands 'dead penalty' for Christopher Gregor

As the news of Corey experiencing "fatal heart stress" before his death from a final assault spread rapidly on X, social media users labeled the father as a "monster".

One social media user wrote, "I'd like to think a father couldn't do that to his little boy, but it looks like this guy is a monster. It's one thing to work your child too hard, but the type of abuse it takes to actually kill them? He never needs to see the light of day again."

Another added, "He is a monster. I hope he gets worse treatment in prison every day he is alive."

The third commentator demanded "death penalty," "He deserves the death penalty now. No need to waste any time or resources on the pos."

One person criticized the law and wrote, "The family law system is severely broken, resulting in innocent children suffering the consequences all day, every day. Deąth penalty aside, my only hope is that the general prison population will deal with Mr. Gregor upon his arrival. Corey will suffer no more. RIP"
