Chynna Phillips recalls a ‘very intense’ conversation she had with her father John before her wedding
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Chynna Phillips recently made a shocking revelation about an intense conversation she had with her late father John Phillips that left her in tears the night before her wedding to Billy Baldwin in 1995.
John Phillips ‘blindsided’ Chynna with a ‘really intense’ conversation
The 56-year-old singer shared a video on her YouTube channel California Preachin’ last week.
In the video, she revealed, that John, who was the lead singer of 'The Mamas & The Papas', had a “really intense” conversation with her the night before he walked her down the aisle.
She said that he told her some “really big information” that made her feel “blindsided” and “numb.”
“We talked about stuff that was pretty earth-shattering and a lot had come to the surface and my father was having a ton of feelings and, of course, that made me have a ton of feelings and I remember I was up all night just weeping, and numb as well,” she recalled.
“I would weep and then I would go stoic again… and it was because my father had just revealed some really big information to me and I just felt blindsided by it," People reported.

Chynna Phillips did not disclose the specifics of her father’s confession
Chynna did not reveal what exactly her father told her, but she hinted that it had something to do with their troubled relationship over the years.
She said that he had missed her entire childhood “because he was high” and that he had an on-and-off sexual relationship with her half-sister Mackenzie Phillips for 10 years, which she wrote about in her 2009 memoir.
She said that she understood that her father might have felt the need to “come clean” before giving her away in a church, “for his own conscience.”
“I know it sounds horrible that he would choose the night before his daughter’s wedding to have a chat like that, but I think his intentions were good,” she said.
“I think he felt shame and guilt and I think he felt like he needed to unload,” she added.
Chynna Phillips said the conversation was ‘priceless’ and ‘honest’
Despite the pain and shock that the conversation caused her, Chynna said that it was also one of the most meaningful and honest conversations she ever had with her father who died of heart failure in 2001 at the age of 65.
Phillips and Baldwin are now parents to daughters Jameson, 23, and Brooke, 19, and son Vance, 22.
She said that it was a contrast of emotions as she felt both terrified and precious at the same time.
“I remember I didn’t sleep much the night before, and I had a lot of adrenaline running through my system as well, because of information,” she said.
“But at the same time, it was one of the most priceless conversations I’ve ever had with my father, and it was definitely, bar none, the most honest conversation I’d had with my father, and the most raw and real conversation I’d ever had with my dad,” she added.
She further said that she had forgiven her father for his mistakes and that it was a “process” that took time.
She also said that she had welcomed Mackenzie on her channel as a guest in December, where they talked about how they had found forgiveness.

“Obviously, he’s an amazing songwriter and, you know I loved his laugh, and yet there was this whole other side to Dad that was, I mean, kind of, like a monster,” Chynna told Mackenzie.
“He was so dark, and you just didn’t know who you were going to get. It was very unpredictable,” she added.
