Cory Mills slams Biden on 'Fox & Friends' for abandoning Americans trapped in Haiti after rescuing them
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Florida Rep Cory Millis joined hosts Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt, and Brian Kilmeade to talk about his rescue mission of US citizens from Haiti on the March 13 episode of 'Fox & Friends'.
The Congressman, who served in the 82nd Airborne and as a defense contractor, shared that he aided in the evacuation of Americans at an orphanage.
He spoke of the operation after Michigan GOP Rep Lisa McClain announced his success in remarks on Capitol Hill, as many of the rescuees happened to be her constituents.
According to Fox News, Americans in Haiti needed to be rescued as the nation recently got engulfed in chaos, with the resignation of Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry on Monday, March 11, and the rise of a lethal slumlord named Jimmy Cherizier.
Cory Mills slams Biden administration for abandoning of US citizens
Rep Cory Mills claimed the Haiti situation to be the third instance where the Biden administration left Americans helpless on foreign soil, the first two being withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2020 and Hamas attack on Israel in 2023.
"This is, unfortunately, a pattern of abandonment by the Biden administration that has existed since 2021, when he left Americans behind in Afghanistan," he said.
"I always look at the fact that if the government is not going to be willing to do its job, that America has to step up and do certain things that are required," Mills said.
The Port-au-Prince orphanage where the most recent rescue took place had asked the State Department for assistance, revealed Millis, but they only evacuated "nonessential department personnel."
According to him, this highlights the pattern of government only caring about the government and not its citizens.
"Walls don't work until we have a State of the Union, then we put a wall up around the Capitol — 'We are working on evacuations, but we can't get to you'… This is sending a direct message that the federal government only cares about government, not about the American people," Mills continued.
"If Americans are abroad and they're in trouble, I'm going to come to their aid, and if Biden's not willing to do his job, I'll do it for him," he added.
In a nighttime extraction operation launched from an undisclosed neighboring country via helicopter, 10 US civilians were rescued from Haiti, including missionaries and philanthropists. Millis reportedly funded the airlift.
State Department's position on Haiti
A spokesperson of the Department reportedly told Fox News on Friday, March 8, "We have no higher priority than the safety and security of US citizens overseas. The US Embassy remains open with limited staffing and will continue to provide assistance to US citizens as necessary."
During a press briefing on Tuesday, March 12, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller revealed the agency did not have a firm figure of how many Americans remain and are trying to leave Haiti.
