Drunk Texas man breaks into home and passes out after high-speed crash that killed female passenger
TEXAS, UNITED STATES: A drunk Texas man broke into a home and passed out in a bed after crashing a car in which a female passenger was killed in the early hours of Thursday, December 21.
Daniel Alexander Rodriguez-Olivares has been charged with manslaughter over the accident that happened outside of Houston. He then broke into a nearby home, where he collapsed into a bed.
The 2016 BMW crossed a creek "at a very high rate of speed," coasted for roughly 500 feet, and then struck a business's fence on Thursday morning at around three in the morning, according to a press release from Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Daniel Alexander Rodriguez-Olivares cried out for help
The out-of-control car crashed through multiple fences and wooden barricades before toppling over and seriously injuring a female passenger, according to the authorities.
The vehicle then fell into a retention ditch. After getting out of his damaged vehicle, Rodriguez-Olivares "made forced entry into a nearby residence in an attempt to get help," according to the press release.
"I imagine, very scary at 3 o clock in the morning, you’re hearing what sounds like a horrific car crash, then breaking glass."
According to KHOU, Sgt B Bondurant of the Harris County Sheriff's Office stated, "It was probably very traumatic for them."
The sound of breaking glass woke the homeowners as Rodriguez-Olivares broke through the door. Carlos Suarez told the outlet that until he found out there had been a crash nearby, he was afraid of what sounded like a break-in.
Before collapsing in his bed, he claimed Rodriguez-Olivares cried out for assistance.
"'Help me, Call the police. My wife is dead,’ something like that," Suarez remembered hearing Rodriguez-Olivares scream.
Daniel Alexander Rodriguez-Olivares accused of intoxication manslaughter
Upon their arrival, the authorities discovered Rodriguez-Olivares unresponsive within the house and his deceased female companion inside the crashed car outside.
The release stated that the suspect had "signs of intoxication" and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Rodriguez-Olivares is accused by the authorities of intoxication manslaughter. Although speeding was common on the street, Tommy Batterson, whose family business was damaged in the collision, said he had never seen a collision quite like this.
"There’s been a few police chases down the street and everything. It’s been a pretty, pretty crazy area," according to Batterson.
He continued, "It was a little bit different today when they jumped across the entire bayou down there, came from the other side of the dead-end street and made it halfway down the block before they ran into the fence and everything."
The collision is still being looked into.
