Demi Moore reveals she was ‘desperate to fit in’ and had a 'sober companion' on ‘St Elmo's Fire’ set
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Demi Moore recently opened up, in a new documentary 'BRATS', about navigating fame at a young age.
Andrew McCarthy’s retrospective documentary about the so-called Brat Pack, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival, includes interviews with 1980s icons including Moore, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Jon Cryer, Lea Thompson, Timothy Hutton, and more.
61-year-old McCarthy spoke with Moore and many of their costars from 1985’s classic 'St Elmo's Fire' to walk down memory lane, reflecting on a career of more than 40 years, as reported by People.

"I was so fearful of failing, fearful of losing, and so desperate to fit in, belong,” said Moore about filming 'St Elmo’s Fire'. She added, “My need to please was definitely on high alert."
Additionally, revealing that a round-the-clock “sober companion” for her was arranged she said: “They paid to have a sober companion with me 24/7, during the whole shooting.”
To which McCarthy responded with surprise and said, "Did they? I didn’t even notice."
Moore continued and said that director Joel Schumacher, "stuck his neck out for me" when casting for the movie. The movie is co-written with Carl Kurlander and is about a college clique hanging out at a Washington, DC bar. “They could have easily just found someone else,” she added.
She further stated, “Because it’s not like I had any box-office draw. You know, we were all just beginning. I didn’t have anything to really warrant him sticking by me.”
In her 'BRATS' interview with McCarthy, Moore describes how the personnel at a rehab center objected to her beginning work on 'St Elmo's Fire' while she was "going to treatment."
“They said, ‘What’s more important to you, the movie or your life?’ And I said, ‘The movie! What are you talking about?'’'
Jon Cryer was 'unaware' of Demi Moore's struggle with drug addiction
Jon Cryer says he had no idea that Demi Moore was battling with addiction during their brief romance in the 1980s, per People.
"We dated for a short time while we were working on 'No Small Affair', but I guess our particular affair was, in fact, pretty small,” he told People, referencing their 1984 film.
He added, “She was already struggling with a drug problem. One that I was blissfully unaware of until a couple of weeks before the movie ended.”
In her 2019 memoir, Inside Out, Moore claimed that before she started filming the 1985 picture, Joel Schumacher, the director of St Elmo's Fire, asked her to check herself into a recovery facility.
