Denzel Bimpey: Bronx teen stabbed to death amid heated argument with 2 people

MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN: Bronx resident, 18-year-old Denzel Bimpey was stabbed to death just before 11 pm on Friday, December 15, in Midtown Manhattan.

The incident occurred at the intersection of 26th Street and Park Avenue South, soon after Bimpey had gotten off a bus. 

Police revealed that Bimpey had gotten into an argument with two people and around 10.45 pm the police were notified when the altercation turned physical. 

What happened at the crime scene?

After the incident, the police found Bimpey with stab wounds, including those to his chest, shoulder, and arm.

Bimpey was on his way to his home in the Bronx, anticipating a warm meal and Christmas with his family when the incident occurred.

The dream of a joyous and peaceful holiday for his family was shattered when Bimpey was fatally stabbed moments after stepping off a bus.

He was swiftly transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A witness at the crime scene recounted, "I was just coming back from dinner, just started walking to the hotel here, and I saw this gentleman in the middle of the street screaming at two other individuals, trying to start a fight. He was screaming profanities, they ended up running away. I saw him walk down this way and that's where the incident happened." 

Police officers revealed that upon their arrival, they noted that the sidewalk and walls at the scene were covered in blood. Although authorities state that Bimpey was stabbed during a confrontation with his assailant, no arrests have been made.

What did Denzel Bimpey’s older sister say?

During the investigation, the statements given to the police by Bimpey's family members shed light on the nature of the victim and the bond between him and his family.

Following the tragic incident, Godslove Nti, 28, Denzel Bimpey's older sister, shared, "It was a straight bus ride home for him. He was under the weather. He was a bit sick, so I was making sure he took medicine before he got on the bus." 

Denzel assured her that he should be home around 10 pm and expressed his love for her. "He always told me he loved me after every conversation we had, no matter if I was angry," she recounted.

Denzel, majoring in business, was successfully adapting to upstate college life, which his sister described as "a different world for city kids." She added, "It’s a college that’s very farmland, greenery, secluded. They had limited options for food, so when he did come home, we made sure to pack him a lot of food." 

One of his priorities upon returning was asking his mother to prepare jollof, a West African rice dish. "My mom and my other brother were going to make that for him," she said of the family’s December 15 plans.

She said, "He had all of us who had been through college, so we guided him. He was in good hands. He was a typical college kid. He went to that school because I went to that school and his other brother went there."

The family, which had faced financial challenges in the past, was looking forward to a different Christmas celebration this year. "We just put up our tree," Nti said and continued, "We were going to celebrate with Christmas songs. It was going to be our second time really celebrating Christmas."

Expressing her dismay over his death, Nti mentioned the hurtful "bullying" social media posts, including those on his own Instagram page. 

She emphasized that police were monitoring these posts and urged an end to bullying and harassment. "Whoever did this won’t be able to hide from it. Wherever he is, the cops are going to find him," she said. 

She added, "Any bullying and any harassment going on, it needs to stop. And making fun in light of the situation needs to stop. No mother should ever have to bury their child. My grandmother should not see her grandson getting buried."

Currently, the names of the accused individuals have not been disclosed, and the police investigation is ongoing as per dailynews.
