QUEENS, UNITED STATES: During an International Women's Day celebration in Queens, a man was shot by police after stabbing his wife in the stomach reportedly assaulting her.
The tragic incident unfolded on the second floor of a building on 62nd Avenue in Forest Hills, where a 46-year-old man, Djamshed Nematov stabbed his partner, Amira Nematov multiple times in the stomach in the presence of other party attendees around 6:50 p.m., according to both police and neighbors.
According to the New York Post, the couple, who have four children, had several of their kids present at the party, confirmed Maddrey.
What did the relatives say about the couple’s health?
Amira Nematov's relative, speaking from her hospital bedside on Saturday, described her as being in significant pain. She is barely coherent, only able to express that she is experiencing discomfort.
The distressing incident occurred on Friday night in Forest Hills, during a gathering of close family and friends to observe a holiday celebrated in Uzbekistan and other former Soviet nations.
According to the unidentified relative, Amira's husband, Djamshed Nematov, has been struggling with his health. He has been experiencing hallucinations, possibly due to depression or other mental health issues.
These struggles began about a month ago and were compounded by severe physical pain from a hernia, which made it difficult for him to perform his job as a home health aide. Despite the obvious need for treatment, Djamshed refused to seek help from a doctor.
Amira expressed concern for her husband's well-being even after the traumatic events, repeatedly asking about him.
What happened at the crime scene?
NYPD officers, responding to 911 calls reporting the stabbing, fatally shot Nematov when he refused to drop the knife.
The 43-year-old wife, unaware of her husband's death, has undergone one surgery at Elmhurst Medical Center and may require additional treatment.
The couple had been married for over 20 years and were described as having a happy marriage. A relative expressed confusion over how the tragedy unfolded, stating they arrived after the incident occurred.
Recounting the scene, they described finding blood in the hallway and witnessing attempts to revive Djamshed.
The neighbors, who had never heard the couple argue until recently, reported hearing screaming and gunfire just before 7 p.m. on the second floor of their building. Police, responding to a dispute, ordered Djamshed to drop the knife, but he refused and allegedly charged at them.
Despite attempts to subdue him with a Taser, officers fired their guns, striking the suspect.
One neighbor mentioned hearing occasional arguments from the couple, but nothing significant until recently. “We would hear a lot of arguing from other families on this floor, but not from this family. Maybe like last week I heard some arguing, [for the first time] but that’s all I heard, nothing crazy.”
The children, although unharmed physically, now have to cope with the aftermath of the incident, according to the relative.
