NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Donald Trump called his former attorney general Bill Barr a "coward" during his keynote address at the New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC) 111th Annual Gala on December 9, 2023.

While speaking about Barr, the White House hopeful, who is facing 91 charges, including his attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election result, said, "He was a coward. He was afraid of being impeached."

Stating his promises if he wins the 2024 presidential elections, he also promised not to appoint Barr, who served in the same position from 2019 to 2020 during Trump's presidency, as the attorney general again.

"I make this commitment to you tonight we will not have Bill Barr as our attorney general," the former president said.

To a cheering crowd, he asked if that was okay and added, "I promise."

Recounting a conversation with Barr, he added that the former attorney general asked him, "How do you not get impeached? I told him, don't be afraid Bill. I got impeached twice my numbers went up."

Trump went on mocking the former attorney general, imitating him, saying, "Sir, they wanna impeach me, sir," to which, the billionaire said, "Just relax."

Donald Trump's statements on Bill Barr may have violated gag order

In August, Barr told CBS that he was willing to testify against Trump in the January 6 Capitol Hill attack, which makes him a foreseeable witness in the case.

In his criminal election interference case, a federal appeals court in DC has imposed a gag order against the former president. Based on this, Trump and his counsel are prohibited from making public statements about "known or reasonably foreseeable witnesses concerning their potential participation in the investigation or in this criminal proceeding," reported CNBC.

Netizens found Trump publicly calling Barr a "coward" as simply projecting his own negative qualities into the former attorney general. Many also questioned whether his statements were a violation of the gag order.

One user said, "Trump on his hate and revenge tour. That's what the maga Republicans are all about.... Hate and Revenge. That's their platform and their purpose now."

Another user stated, "Trump doesn’t give speeches. He tells long fake stories that provide an alternate reality in which he’s the hero and allow his audience to conflate themselves with him as he pretends to vanquish imaginary enemies like 'Sleepy Joe' 'Crooked Hillary' 'the Deep State' & 'Fake News.'"

"The king of projection," said a third user.

A fourth user remarked, "This man never stops crying and whining!"

"It’s only a matter of time until he throws his children under the bus," read one reaction.

Another user added, "So, "coward" means (in Trump code) "afraid to stand up for me" when on the witness stand."

Questioning the gag order one user asked, "I thought he wasn't allowed to talk about potential witnesses? So much for that I guess."

"So, there goes the gag order again," said another.
