WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump is celebrating a significant legal victory following the Supreme Court's decision on Monday, July 1, which ruled that former presidents will have broad immunity from actions taken while in office.

Just after the ruling was announced, Trump took to Truth Social to write, "Big win for our constitution and democracy, Proud to be an American!"

Supreme Court's ruling

Delivering a major win to Trump, the Supreme Court sent the federal case over his efforts to overturn the election in 2020 back to a lower court which will now determine whether the former president's actions meet the qualifications for immunity protection.

The 78-year-old politician and his legal team have consistently argued that he should be immune from criminal prosecution in connection to the action during his term.

The high court's six-three ruling along ideological lines decided the former president has broad immunity when it comes to his official acts during his presidency, reported The Hill.

In his majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote, “At least with respect to the president’s exercise of his core constitutional powers, this immunity must be absolute."

"As for his remaining official actions, he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity" read the opinion that later noted that there is “no immunity for unofficial acts.”

Donald Trump says SC's decision should end Joe Biden's 'witch hunts' against him

In another Truth Social post on Monday, July 7, Trump wrote, "Today’s Historic Decision by the Supreme Court should end all of Crooked Joe Biden’s Witch Hunts against me, including the New York Hoaxes - The Manhattan SCAM cooked up by Soros backed DA, Alvin Bragg, Racist New York Attorney General Tish James’ shameless ATTACK on the amazing business that I have built, and the FAKE Bergdorf’s 'case.' PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!"

Biden campaign says SC's immunity decision 'doesn't change the facts'

Speaking about the Supreme Court's presidential immunity ruling, the Biden campaign stated that the decision "doesn’t change the facts" and reiterated allegations that Trump "snapped" when he lost the election to Joe Biden in 2020.

After the court announced the ruling, a senior campaign advisor stated, “Donald Trump snapped after he lost the 2020 election and encouraged a mob to overthrow the results of a free and fair election."

“Trump is already running for president as a convicted felon for the very same reason he sat idly by while the mob violently attacked the Capitol: he thinks he’s above the law and is willing to do anything to gain and hold onto power for himself," read the statement, according to CNN.
