Elizabeth Debicki reveals working 'really, really hard' on the speech
Fallon first praised Debicki for accurately capturing Princess Diana's mannerisms, saying, "Not only do you have her mannerisms down, it's bizarre how great you are. It's so great. But you have her dialect. Like, the way she speaks, it's very Diana. Did you did you work with a coach? Is there a word?"
In response, Debicki acknowledged that she does have a word or something she uses to get into a particular accent for playing the role of Princess Diana.
She mentioned, "I actually worked really, really hard on it. Because it felt like a super important thing to sort of give the audience that, because it's such an iconic voice and there's a sense of, like, wanting to do it as best I can".
She further shared that she was "highly disciplined", specifically in the dialect sessions for her role, emphasizing that it's the only aspect of her life where she exhibited significant discipline.
The learning process for dialects on 'The Crown' involved studying speeches given by real-life individuals, as their speeches were often over-enunciated, providing valuable insights, as per Debicki.
Elizabeth Debicki knew there 'would be heaviness' to 'The Crown's ending
Sometime in the conversation with Fallon, Debicki discussed the final season of 'The Crown', acknowledging the inherent heaviness, she expressed a deliberate effort to embrace moments of joy, happiness, and freedom during filming.
On being asked, "How'd you feel going into filming this?", the actress said, "I mean, we knew that it would have a sort of heaviness to it, a weight to it. But I think because of that, I sort of leaned in as much as I could to finding the moments of joy and happiness and kind of freedom."
Fallon continued his question, asking, "Was there anything that you take away from playing Princess Diana?"
"I mean, there's so many things. I think, after studying the real-life person, I mean, she was just the most remarkable human being. And she lived her life with so much love. She gave so much love to people", Debicki replied.
