WASHINGTON: To prevent the postponement of Donald Trump's March 4 trial date, prosecutors have asked the federal court to reject the former president's request to halt proceedings in the January 6, 2021, case, while they appeal Judge Tanya Chutkan's presidential immunity order.

The prosecutors, led by special counsel Jack Smith, stated in a filing, "During the pendency of the appeal, any number of matters could arise in this case that are not involved in the appeal; the Court should not enter an order preventing it from handling them. Furthermore, the Court should maintain the March 4 trial date."

Jack Smith's team makes a significant revelation

According to ABC news, Smith's prosecutors said in a different listing that they questioned almost every top former intelligence officer in the Trump administration about their knowledge of any single vote being manipulated by a voting machine during the 2020 election.

It's a big disclosure since Smith's team says they had access to over a dozen senior intelligence officers, including the former president's intelligence briefer, which provides a road map for the material they'll probably use in court.

The filing read, "To the contrary, as the defendant is aware from the discovery that has been provided, the Government asked every pertinent witness—including the former DNI, former Acting Secretary of DHS, former Acting Deputy Secretary of DHS, former CISA Director, former Acting CISA Director, former CISA Senior Cyber Counsel, former National Security Advisor (“NSA”), former Deputy NSA, former Chief of Staff to the National Security Council, former Chairman of the Election Assistance Commission (“EAC”), Presidential Intelligence Briefer, former Secretary of Defense, and former senior DOJ leadership—if they were aware of any evidence that a domestic or foreign actor flipped a single vote in a voting machine during the presidential election. The answer from every single official was no"

The petition in question specifically addressed Trump's demand for access to a variety of secret data that he believes are relevant to his legal defense in the action that was filed on January 6.

"To create the false impression that there might actually be support for his lies about voting machines, the defendant, without context, threads his filing with discussion of irrelevant network breaches around the time of the 2020 election," the filing reads.

Internet reacts to Jack Smith's request

Many people on X (formerly Twitter) shared their opinions on the development.

A user wrote, "Your story is a masterpiece in progress; embrace its twists and turns," while one added, "Smith is as corrupt as they come."

Another person stated, "If anything they should get this thing going much sooner," whereas one added, "Check out Jack’s history and you see all you need to see."

A user also wrote, "Fascinating legal twist! The Jan. 6 case remains a focal point, signaling ongoing complexities in the legal realm."

"What a shock. Smith wants this to keep Trump from becoming President. That is his end goal. Take out Biden's biggest threat. It isnt about justice," said another user.
