Kayleigh McEnany advises Republicans on 'Fox & Friends' to adopt a 'pro-mother' stance on abortion laws
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Co-host Brian Kilmeade welcomed former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on the January 23 episode of 'Fox & Friends' to talk about the growing buzz surrounding the abortion laws in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
The Fox News contributor and 'Outnumbered' co-host claimed that Vice-president Kamala Harris had been media trained to bring up the topic repeatedly, and shared how conservatives should frame their message to elicit support from the voters.
Kayleigh McEnany's take on the abortion conversation
Calling Harris' interview on 'The View' "remarkable," McEnany noted that even when the Vice-president was given "low hanging fruits, like January 6 (insurrection) or things you think she would take up (the show) on answering, she pivoted right back to abortion."
"(Harris) has clearly had media training, she has clearly been told 'Tick this (abortion) box' over and over and over again to get young women," she shared.
Responding to Kilmeade's question on how Republicans should table the issue to the public so that they may "hold on to their values" as well as "win elections," McEnany stated that the emphasis must be put on the party being "pro-mother."
"As a pro-life party in a country that does believe that there should be some restrictions on abortion, we must emphasize that we are pro-mother. (We must) show compassion on the issue, lay out our plans to help single women who are pregnant in this country - vulnerable women."
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis started sharing the message toward the end of his presidential campaign, which McEnany felt was "a great move."
Kayleigh McEnany evaluates Nikki Haley's perspective on abortion ban
"Nikki Haley said, why are we talking about a national ban? It's never going to get there. There are not 60 votes that want a national ban ever," Kilmeade told his guest.
"Ambassador Haley was emphasizing a reality," replied McEnany. "That is the reality in the United States Senate currently."
"Is it a good answer though?" wondered Kilmeade, to which the Fox News contributor answered affirmative.
"I do think it's a good answer, paired with a pro-life message about compassion and support for women. Gov DeSantis, for instance, made childcare products tax-free in Florida, maternal healthcare - pairing with that, I think it is a good answer."
