TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA: During the fourth GOP debate in Alabama, moderated by Elizabeth Vargas, Megyn Kelly, and Eliana Johnson, several topics were discussed including Donald Trump, national debt, and inflation.

In relation to inflation and the growing national debt, Florida Governor and GOP candidate Ron DeSantis was asked about the measures he would take to “help Americans make ends meet.”

DeSantis had a prepared response to the question posed by the moderators during the debate; however, his reference to gender studies and other topics failed to convince the internet.

Ron DeSantis talks about student loans

During the fourth GOP debate, moderator Eliana Johnson asked Ron DeSantis, "Inflation tops the worries of American voters, with 61% expressing very concerned, and the working class is hardest hit."

The debt under both the Biden and Trump administrations was briefly discussed before Johnson inquired, "What concrete steps would a President DeSantis take to help Americans make ends meet?"

In response to the question, DeSantis shared an anecdote about a boy he conversed with in Iowa before affirming, "We will decrease inflation, lower interest rates, and cut down on spending."

He also addressed the need to reduce gas prices and fuel costs before discussing another concern affecting young people, namely, student loans.

“I don't support having a truck driver having to pay a student loan for someone that got a degree in gender studies. That is wrong. We should not have taxpayers do that,” said DeSantis.

He continued, “What I’m going to do though, is I’m going to get to the root cause of the problem. These student loans are going to be backed by the universities because they need to have an incentive to produce gainful employment for people.”

He also expressed the intention to allocate funds towards "real vocational training" and provided an example from his own state.

Internet reacts to claims made by Ron DeSantis

After Ron DeSantis took a dig at gender studies, the internet was quick to respond. One user wrote, “You’re not going to be president,” and another said, “You destroyed your career, Ron, you’re not going to be president!”

"You sound like a high school debater," wrote one user, and another said, "As a truck driver, thanks…but you still have no chance bro."

One user wrote, "I'm so sick of Ron DeSantis crapping on 'Gender studies' as if the worst thing anyone could possibly learn about is feminism & the historic, systemic oppression of women. God forbid people learn about that. Or worse yet, feel inspired to do something about it. #GOPDebate."

A user simply expressed by sharing a gif that read, "Trash."
