Brit Hume accuses Lara Trump of 'political malpractice' over criticism of GOP Senate candidate
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Veteran Fox News analyst Brit Hume took aim at Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump for criticizing one of her party's candidates for not demonstrating enough loyalty to her father-in-law, Donald Trump. Hume described Lara Trump's actions as "political malpractice."
Hume's criticism comes following her comments on June 2 speaking with CNN’s Kasie Hunt on 'State of the Union', where she criticized Larry Hogan, the esteemed former Republican governor of Maryland, who is currently running for Senate.
Hume warns of political consequences after Lara Trump's campaign
Before Donald Trump's verdict last week, Hogan released a statement urging all Americans to "respect the verdict and the legal process," regardless of the outcome.
In response, Lara Trump criticized Hogan, stating that he "doesn’t deserve the respect of anyone in the Republican Party at this point, and quite frankly anybody in America," as per CNN.
However, Hume countered by pointing out that Hogan is offering the GOP its best opportunity in years in Maryland, a state that hasn't elected a Republican to the Senate in decades.
Hume said, “And the Lara Trumps of the world ought to be saying, ‘Please Mr. Hogan, Please Gov. Hogan, you do whatever you have to do to get elected, and some of the things you say and you believe in don’t agree with what I think, that’s OK, do what you have to do," adding, “That’s how politics is played by smart people.”
Hume highlighted how Donald Trump's actions in Georgia during the 2020 election, where he criticized Republican officials amid a closely contested Senate race, disrupted the process.
"It cost the Republicans control of the Senate," Hume noted, cautioning that Trump might repeat such errors. "That’s what could happen with this kind of stupid stuff."
Hogan calls for unity after Trump conviction, Lara Trump reacts critically
Reportedly, last week, former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan called for Americans to respect the legal process after a Manhattan jury found former President Donald Trump guilty of all 34 charges related to falsifying business records.
The verdict marked a significant moment in American history, as Trump became the first former president to be convicted of a felony.
Hogan emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law, stating, "At this dangerously divided moment in our history, all leaders—regardless of party—must not pour fuel on the fire with more toxic partisanship. We must reaffirm what has made this nation great: the rule of law."
In response, Lara Trump criticized Hogan's statement, calling it "ridiculous."
When asked whether the RNC would withhold funds from Hogan's campaign, Lara Trump did not provide a direct answer but reiterated her disapproval of Hogan's remarks.
