6 celebrities who are backing President Joe Biden for 2024 presidential run
With just a few months before the 2024 US general election, celebs are supporting either Joe Biden or the presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. During his 2020 presidential bid, Biden enjoyed the endorsement of celebrities including Tom Hanks, Jennifer Hudson, Zooey Deschanel and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. Some celebrities have since withdrawn their support for Biden, citing concerns regarding his policies on Israel and overall budget plans. Here are a few notable people who are still backing Biden.
1. Barack Obama
Barack Obama extended his support to Joe Biden, who served as his Vice President for two terms in the White House. During a fundraiser event held in New York on March 29, Obama, with Bill Clinton, helped generate over $26M in donations for Biden's reelection campaign. Obama lauded Biden's aptitude and capabilities while slamming former President Trump's policies as antiquated and "a little old and out of shape." He encouraged the audience at the fundraiser to "stay with what works," endorsing Biden as the "kind of president I want."
2. Jeffrey Katzenberg
Jeffrey Katzenberg who previously spearheaded Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros was appointed national co-chair for Joe Biden's 2024 presidential campaign. The billionaire pledged to revitalize the Commander-in-Chief's public image and provide “all the resources” to ensure the 81-year-old incumbent president’s reelection. Katzenberg reportedly contributed a substantial $889,600 sum to Biden's reelection campaign in July.
3. Hillary Clinton
On Wednesday, April 3, Hillary Clinton co-hosted a fundraiser for Joe Biden with Lin-Manuel Miranda, star of the hit Broadway musical 'Hamilton'. During a preview of the new Broadway production, ‘Suffs’, Clinton, also a co-producer of the musical, urged attendees to support the Democratic incumbent. The former Secretary of State expressed her gratitude towards the guests for "supporting our democracy" and the new musical, which tells the story of the suffragists. Clinton said, "All of us have to come out of this theater with the same enthusiasm for voting that it takes to actually make that kind of progress."
4. Lin-Manuel Miranda
Lin-Manuel Miranda hosted a fundraiser for Joe Biden as part of his upcoming reelection campaign. This event was his second for the Democrat President, which he co-hosted with Hillary Clinton. Miranda also organized a concert titled ‘Broadway for Biden’ in September last year, which featured other Tony Award-winning artists such as Leslie Odom Jr, Laura Benanti and Josh Groban, among others. Tickets for this concert ranged from $250 to $7,500. Miranda has also made a significant financial contribution to Biden's presidential campaign by donating $20,000 last summer.
5. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga publicly endorsed Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate for the US presidential election in 2020 and later performed at his inauguration in 2021. While her stance on the 2024 election is yet to be disclosed, she was appointed co-chair of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities in April 2023, effectively assuming the role of an advisor to President Biden.
6. Seth MacFarlane
Seth MacFarlane, the creator of ‘Family Guy’ and a longstanding Democrat, has donated $100K towards Joe Biden's 2024 presidential campaign. This is not the first time that the actor-comedian has contributed to the political campaigns of Democrat candidates, having previously donated to the presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders.
