WASHINGTON, DC: Embattled ex-congressman George Santos became the target of internet mockery after making a pitch to take over as Donald Trump's director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if the former president gets re-elected in 2024.

The 35-year-old former NY representative took to Twitter on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, to state that his “New Year resolution is that President Trump returns to the white house and in 2025 I can be appointed Director of ICE.”

“It’s time to reclaim our country and if you believe the nonsense numbers the media is giving you then you are accepting the big lie!” he added.

He then launched attacks against the Joe Biden administration’s immigration policy, saying “We have over 50M+ people who have invaded our sovereignty over the years due to careless and neglectful immigration policy.”

“If given the job I know exactly where to start and run the much-needed raids of removal proceedings this country needs,” the disgraced ex-congressman stated, before adding, “Enough abuse and disregard for our sovereignty, we are the United States OF America and not a global dumping hub.”

“ICE has had their hands tied for far too long with the sole exception of the great four years of DJT. The time is now and that’s why I’m putting my name in the mix for a role that will take grit and a fearless person and not a coward that will fear media spin,” he concluded.

George Santos ousted from the House

George Santos’ pitch came a few weeks after he was ousted from the House by a 311-114-2 vote, following a slew of political scandals. The former New York Republican is the sixth lawmaker to be expelled from the lower chamber.

Santos is being prosecuted on 23 federal criminal counts related to allegations that he deceived donors, fraudulently collected unemployment benefits, fabricated House financial disclosures, overstated his campaign finance reports, and charged his donors' credit cards without authorization.

A damning report by the House Ethics Committee, which concluded that Santos had committed significant offenses, also forced some dissenting members to vote in favor of the beleaguered lawmaker's removal after two efforts at expulsion had failed.

Santos initially pledged never to return to Congress but recently said he would consider running again. He has not indicated whether he wants to stay in politics throughout his career.

Internet reacts to George Santos’ pitch to join Trump admin in 2024

George Santos’ post has garnered immense social media attention, with users trolling him for pitching to serve as Trump's director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following his election win in 2024.

“On a scale of 1 to you randomly screaming in the House’s hallways, how sober are you right now?” one user trolled.

“Dude you are going to prison and won’t be serving in any damn position! You are a damn FRAUD,” the second user attacked.

“I'm all for it. 🤣 Godspeed, Mr. Santos. Godspeed,” the third user joked, while the fourth one said “Hilariously delusional. CAMEO ON!”

“Watching you pretending to hold the moral high ground on *any* topic, is the funniest damn thing I’ve seen today and it’s only 2:07 pm,” the fifth user slammed.

“This coming from a man who fraudulently worked his way into Congress and then was expelled for continuing his fraudulent ways. Credibility is not on your side, George,” one more wrote.
