Cory Monteith’s character’s dad died due to drug overdose

The January 2012 episode was about Monteith’s character Finn Hudson knowing about his father’s death, one year and seven months before his drug overdose death in July 2013, Us Weekly reported.

In the show, it was shown that Finn believed his father was a war hero but later he found out that he lost his life to drugs.

In the episode, Finn’s mother told him, “He died in Cincinnati after being dishonorably discharged.”

She added, “Honey, he had a drug problem that he tried to get over when he came home — for you, mostly — but then he would just disappear for a day or a week sometimes. One day, he just didn’t come back. It was an overdose.”

Finn’s mother also shared that she did not reveal the truth initially “because your dad was so much more than the last few months of his life.”

Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale express how they feel

Commenting on the episode, Ushkowitz said, “We probably don’t remember it because we thought it was just another storyline for Finn that was really well done [at the time].

“But in hindsight, the whole through line of this storyline — every line that he said about it — really just struck a different chord that resonated or mirrored his life too closely. It was just really sad to watch.”

McHale then noted, “Yeah, it felt really dark and morbid watching it. But obviously, there was no way to know what the future was going to be. .. it just felt very eerie.”
