NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Recently, people on the internet flooded the Tennessee government with positive feedback following the approval of a new law by the governor. This law prevents artificial intelligence from imitating musicians from the state.

AI mimicking songs has become a significant issue for many singers in the United States. Universal Music Records, one of the largest record labels in the country, recently removed all its artists from the video-sharing platform TikTok.

They stated that TikTok failed to safeguard their artists from AI imitations. Some artists under UMG, like Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and Lady Gaga, had their songs removed from TikTok as a result.

Tennessee's new law prohibits AI impersonations of musicians

According to Fox News, Tennessee's governor has given the green light to a law designed to safeguard the state's musicians from misuse or copying by artificial intelligence. Governor Bill Lee put his signature on the 'Ensuring Likeness, Voice, and Image Security (ELVIS) Act' on Thursday at a honky-tonk bar in Nashville.

Fox News reported that Lee commented after signing the bill, stating, "There are certainly many things that are positive about what AI does. It also, when fallen into the hands of bad actors, it can destroy this industry."

Lee elaborated on how AI has become a problem for musicians, expressing, "It can rob an individual, these individual artists to whose unique God-given gifts transform people’s lives. It can steal those gifts, it can impersonate those gifts, it can subsequently create fake works that rob those artists of their intellectual property."

The ELVIS Act pays tribute to the legendary singer Elvis Presley. Lee was accompanied by artists at Robert’s Western World honky-tonk for the signing, including renowned country stars Luke Bryan and Chris Janson, as reported by Fox News.

Internet users assert the ELVIS Act is a good step

A user wrote, "The first battle between humans and robots in history."

Another user wrote, "This is only the tip of the iceberg. Good first step."

A user commented, "Prevention is good medicine. Corrupt people will use AI to take advantage of it."

Another user commented, "WOW it really great..!!!!"

A user labeled it a win and stated, "🏆🔝Biggest!!!!!!!!🔝🏆"
