WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sparked a furious backlash as she defended Hunter Biden after Republicans blasted President Joe Biden's son for refusing to testify before House lawmakers.

The 53-year-old First Son was subpoenaed to appear before the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees on Wednesday, December 13. Instead, he called a press conference on Capitol Hill, where he said that his father had never been involved in any of his business operations and declined to sit for a deposition.

In defense of the president, Hunter claimed at the press conference that those who have criticized him have "belittled my recovery, and they have tried to dehumanize me, all to embarrass my father, who has devoted his entire life to public service."

He continued, "For six years I have been a target of the unrelenting Trump attack team. 'Where’s Hunter?’ Well, here’s my answer. I am here',"

"My father was not financially involved in my business," declared Hunter, adding that his father was not aware of his business operations with Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas company, or his Chinese investments.

His refusal to testify angered many Republicans, with Oversight Committee Chair James Comer and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan warning that they would start proceedings to hold Hunter in contempt of Congress.

What did Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez say about Hunter Biden?

On Wednesday, Ocasio-Cortez joined other Democrats at a press conference where they denounced Republicans, claiming that Hunter was making an effort to comply with the subpoena.

She said, "[I]t’s also important to note, that not only is the committee not allowing Hunter Biden to testify publicly, but they have not called a single witness, a single first-hand witness to any of their allegations."

Ocasio-Cortez then stated that Republicans had failed to dig up a single witness with direct evidence of wrongdoing in their impeachment inquiry of the POTUS.

"They haven’t allowed anybody to testify publicly, because they do not have a single witness to any of their alleged allegations. They don’t," noted the Congresswoman, according to Fox News.

She asserted, "We have asked virtually every single person that has come to testify for this committee, ‘Have you seen, witnessed, participated, in a room, anything with first-hand testimony of any of what is being alleged?’"

"And every single witness that they have called before us has said, ‘No, I haven’t seen anything, didn’t hear anything, wasn’t party to anything'," concluded the Democratic Rep.

Internet reacts to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's remarks about Hunter Biden

Soon after Ocasio-Cortez’s statement on Hunter surfaced online, netizens and GOP supporters slammed the Democratic Rep, calling her a liar.

One said, "She’s another liar," and another added, "We all know that AOC doesn't support the best causes, so this comment isn't the least surprising."

"AOC's spin machine is working overtime! Hunter Biden's compliance is a joke. He's avoiding accountability, plain and simple. No one's buying this act," fumed an individual.

A person inquired, "Just how does she know so quickly the how, what, and why of his defense strategy for the hearing?" while someone else chimed in, "Last I checked the defendant doesn't get to choose what he "wants" to do. What he wants is irrelevant."

"AOC is pathetic. Would this be acceptable if it were Donald Trump? We all know the answer," wrote on more.
