'I do not regret at all': Harrison Butker addresses his graduation speech at 'Courage Under Fire' gala
NASHIVILLE, TENNESSEE: Harrison Butker stood by his words as he addressed his controversial graduation speech at Benedictine College.
The NFL star attended the 'Courage Under Fire' gala in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday, May 24, and said “The theme for tonight’s gala, ‘Courage Under Fire,’ was decided many months ago, but it now seems providential that this would be the theme after what we have all witnessed these past two weeks.”
Butker talked about his faith and beliefs as he said, “If it wasn’t clear that the timeless Catholic values are hated by many, it is now. Over the past few days, my beliefs or what people think I believe have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe,” reports Today.
The Kansas City Chiefs kicker further said, “The more I’ve talked about what I value most, which is my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I have become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made, and one I do not regret at all.”
Butker emphasized that he had received a "shocking level of hate" over his "beliefs."
In his controversial speech, Butker said that his wife’s life "really started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother."
His teammate earlier reacted to his controversial speech where Patrick Mahomes called him a “good person,” Travis said that he did not agree with “just about any” of Harrison‘s thoughts, but feels that he was “a great person and a great teammate.”
