MIDDLETOWN, OHIO: Senator JD Vance, in a recent interview, stated that the people's mistrust of the Republican Party's policies on abortion may cause them to lose the election.

The Ohio Senator told CNN's Jake Tapper about his perspectives on the abortion ban when asked about the Texas Supreme Court's temporarily blocking a pregnant woman's emergency abortion.

"If people see Republicans not as the party that's trying to make it easier to have babies but is just trying to take people's rights away, then we're going to lose," said Vance.

Abortion restriction has been a central focus of the GOP since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in 2022 and gave the right to states to choose whether abortion is legal or not.

Following the Supreme Court decision, laws prohibiting or limiting access to abortion have been implemented in 25 states, according to an Associated Press report.

Citing the case of Kate Cox, who was not allowed an emergency abortion by the Texas Supreme Court despite the fetus having a fatal genetic condition that could affect the mother's health and future pregnancies, Tapper asked the Seantor is the reason why "many voters might not trust Republicans."

Vance replied by saying he was not aware of the details of Cox's case but emphasized that the people do not prefer "blanket abortion bans."

"I will say that we have to accept that people do not want blanket abortion bans. They just don't. I say this as a person who wants to protect as many unborn babies as possible. We have to provide exceptions for the life of the mother, for rape, and so forth. That is just a basic necessity," he said.

JD Vance on earning people's trust back

Vance discussed the rising costs of raising children in the country, which are becoming unaffordable to many, and families who want to have children cannot do so because of the financial situation.

Adding that this is an issue equally faced by the Republican party and the nation, he said, "We've made it way too hard to have children and to have families in this country in that environment."

Emphasizing GOP's failure if people lack trust in the party's stance on abortion, Vance said that they should win back the citizen's trust.

"I want to protect as many unborn babies as possible, I also think we have to win the trust back of the American people, and one of the ways to do that is to be the truly pro-family party, and I think we are, but we got to carry that message forward and actually enact some public policy to that effect," he stated.

Internet ridicules GOP's approach to abortion

Netizens are ridiculing the Republican Party's approach to abortion. Many pointed out that the party is trying to take women's rights away.

One user said, "If the shoe fits!"

Another user remarked, "And yep. That's exactly what you're doing."

"Makes sense when that is exactly what they are doing," said another user.

One user stated, "Because all Republicans do is take people’s rights away — especially women and girls …. and give tax breaks to the rich."

One user mocked Vance, saying, "In the dueling proverbs of "don't judge a book by its cover" and "you are who you appear to be," the latter applies."

"J. D., the people are not wrong!" stated another.

Another reaction read, "In a sense, he's not wrong....they aren't "trying" They already HAVE!!"
