TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA: Chris Christie continued his scathing attack on Donald Trump during the fourth GOP debate, calling the former president a "dictator," "bully," "an angry bitter man" and even likening him to "Voldemort" at one point.

The former New Jersey governor also claimed that Trump wishes to serve another term as president because he wants to "exact retribution on anyone who has disagreed with him."

Prior to the fourth Republican debate, Christie adviser Maria Comella had mentioned that Christie would take on Trump and the Republican candidates who have failed to call out the former president.

"Expect Governor Christie to be in prosecutorial mode tonight as it relates to Trump and the candidates who have failed to show the courage to take him on," Comella said, as per USA Today

Chris Christie claims Trump wants to be president to 'exact retribution'

Christie called out Trump several times during the fourth GOP debate. At one point the former federal prosecutor also called Trump "an angry bitter man" while discussing the former president's nomination for a second term.

"I mean look he has made it very clear, there is no mystery to what he wants to do," Christie said. "He started off his campaign by saying, 'I am your retribution.' Eight years ago he said I am your voice," he pointed out.

"This is an angry, bitter man who now wants to be back as president because he wants to exact retribution on anyone who has disagreed with him, anyone who has tried to hold him to account for his own conduct, and everyone of these policies he is talking about are about pursuing a plan of retribution," Christie claimed.

He then turned on Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley for not speaking out against Trump.

"And yet at the first debate, my three colleagues at this stage when asked if he would be convicted of federal felonies would they still support him, raised their hands, looked into the camera and let everybody know that they would still support him even if convicted of federal felonies," Christie said.

"Federal felonies which involve out election process, federal felonies which involve the most sensitive of our governmental secrets, federal felonies where he instructed others to committ crimes, folks who are now agreeing to go jail because of what they did in his name," he argued.

"So do I think he was kidding when he said he was a dictator? All he have to do is look at the history! And that's why failing to speak out against him, making excuses for him, pretending that somehow he is a victim, empowers him," Christie stated.

"You wanna know why those poll numbers are where they are?" Christie asked the moderators, explaining, "because folks like these three guys on the stage make it seem like his conduct is acceptable."

"Let me make it clear, his conduct is unacceptable, he is unfit and be careful of what you are gonna get if you ever got another Donald Trump term," he warned.

Christie concluded his argument by saying, Trump "does not care about the American people" as "it is Donald Trump first."

Chris Christie's comments on Donald Trump left internet divided

Christie's remarks on Trump during the fourth GOP debate left internet divided. While some agreed with Christie's points against the former president, Trump supporters mocked him online.

"Chris Christie is the only one holding Trump accountable," one said in support of the former New Jersey governor.

"Thank you Chris for telling the truth, and shining a light on the 3 other cowards who knell to the orange jesus," another said.

"You may not like it but he didn’t say anything that is not true," one mentioned.

One user said, "Chris Christie is the only GOP candidate speaking the hard truths that need to be said"

While another mentioned, "Chris Christie is the ONLY HONEST CANDIDATE!!! He is so right!!! Bravo!!!"

While some users supported Christie's stand against Trump, some also held him accountable for endorsing the former president back in 2016 and 2020, respectively.

"Truer words were never spoken, he's just speaking them a little too late for his own viability. Where was this righteous stand 8 years ago?" one asked.

"Christie and every other Republican are responsible for Trump, and no different than Trump," another added.

"All that was obviously true when you supported and tried to get in his administration," one said.

"But he helped put Trump in office and it wasn't as if Trump wasn't known then to be exactly what Christie describes," another pointed out.

Meanwhile, supporters of Trump also took to social media to slam Christie for his comments on the former president.

"Actually, #ChrisChristie is an angry bitter man seeking retribution against someone who disagrees with him," one claimed.

"Sounds like he's talking about himself," another echoed.

"The guy with a 25% approval amongst Republican voters, yep he really nailed it! I'm sure he just secured a primetime show on CNN!" a third mocked.

One user alleged, "He is mad because Trump got rid of him when he tried to stack the White House with lobbyists".

While another added, "SOUR GRAPES BECAUSE HE DIDNT PUT HIMBIN HIS CABINET IN 2016.."
