NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Joe Scarborough's claims as to why former President and current Republican frontrunner Donald Trump was refusing to appear for a debate was met with ridicule on the Internet.

On the January 26 episode of 'Morning Joe,' the co-host stated that Trump was showing "extreme weakness," being forgetful about details, and was in fact, afraid of Nikki Haley.

Joe Scarborough's take on Donald Trump skipping debates

Suggesting that Nikki Haley, former UN Ambassador and sole remaining competitor of Trump in the GOP, should call out Trump as she campaigns in her home state of South Carolina. Scarborough listed questions for her to ask.

"Are (Trump)'s handlers keeping him away from the debate stage because they're scared that he's going to go out and once again forget what decade this is, forget who he's running against?" he asked.

"Forget that World War 2 ended in 1945, forget that Nancy Pelosi was the speaker of the House on January 6 (and) not Nikki Haley? Forget that Joe Biden is the President of the United States (and not Brr..Brr.. Barack Obama?" he continued.

Trump's supporters are "scared because they think they need to bubble wrap him because he would do so badly on the debate stage. (Haley) needs to bring that up every single day," he added.

The host went on to claim that Trump was scared of Haley, stating, "Everybody take note in the Republican Party - Donald Trump is scared to debate Nikki Haley. In MAGA-land, let me put it to you this way - your big boy, your big man, he's afraid of a woman. He's afraid to debate a woman (whom) he has called bird-brained."

Internet slams Joe Scarborough over his comments about Donald Trump

Social media users did not agree with Scarborough, as they reminded him that his comments of being forgetful and weak would suit incumbent President Joe Biden as well.

"Joe, are you talking about Biden? Have you seen him lately?" asked a user on X.

"I think you are talking about President Biden. He needs to be more accessible to the Press so we Americans are fully informed. He has broken his promise to unite the country. I just don't think he or his administration care about us. It's all about them," expanded another.

"This is EXACTLY what Biden handlers have been doing since even before he was elected. Isn’t it amazing they always accuse people of doing exactly what they are folks? As if Trump HAS EVER listened to his 'handlers.' Hell, Trump even wrote his own tweets," added a third.

"He will Debate Biden! In fact let's have both take a cognitive exam live on TV! That will never happen because everyone knows Biden is cognitively impaired, despite your repeated lies!" exclaimed a fourth.

"Keep this same energy for the current President, you utter frauds," challenged a fifth.
