WASHINGTON, DC: The Biden campaign is enlisting former top Hillary Clinton campaign staffer Brian Fallon to oversee Vice President Kamala Harris' communications. Fallon most recently led a far-left judicial advocacy group that spearheaded the court-packing movement and tweeted in favor of defunding the police.

Sheila Nix, the chief of staff for Harris' campaign, praised Fallon's background and stated that he has a variety of insights on issues that are significant to Americans.

"Brian brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge on the issues that matter most to the American people. We're thrilled to have him join the team, and know he will be a huge asset to reelecting President Biden and Vice President Harris," Nix said in a statement to the Washington Post.

When Brian Fallon called for defunding police

Fallon, who is expected to start his new position next month, was Hillary Clinton's national press secretary during her unsuccessful 2016 campaign. Over the last several years, he has been heading Demand Justice, an advocacy group for progressive judges.

Fallon's organization began by opposing Republican judicial nominees while supporting Democratic candidates. Over time, the organization changed its focus to advocacy-based projects including "court packing", or the expansion of the Supreme Court and subordinate courts.

Fallon cited advice from left-wing activist Elie Mystal, who has stated he would fight for the appointment of 10 extra Supreme Court Justices, for a total of 19 justices, while explaining why his organization began leaning toward court cramming during a 2020 podcast episode. He's also referred to the Constitution as "trash".

Mystal, according to Fallon, "was one of the leading voices calling for ideas like reforming the Supreme Court." He continued by saying that Demand Justice "should be willing to try to organize by it" if individuals like Mystal, who "are on the inside," and who write for "elite audiences like this," are prepared to call it out.

"So that’s when I first got acquainted with Elie, and we did an event together in December of 2018 and took the house down with storytelling that is on display here, right now, and that’s when we decided to sort of lean in on that issue," he said.

In 2021, Demand Justice had meetings with a number of Democratic senators to explore legislation that would have added four members to the Supreme Court.

Demand Justice has ties to several Biden's closest advisers. Jen Psaki, the former press secretary for the White House, was a "communications consultant" to the team.

Before entering the administration, Paige Herwig, Biden's point person on judicial appointments, was employed by the organization as well. Another group co-founder, Christopher Kang, was Obama's deputy counsel and special assistant for legislative affairs during the Obama-Biden administration.
