WASHINGTON, DC: Former House speaker Nancy Pelosi affirmed that Joe Biden is "very sharp" on Monday, February 12, 2024, as she claimed that she cannot criticize his age because "he's younger" than she is amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the President's age.

In an interview with CNN presenter Anderson Cooper, Pelosi, who turns 84 next month, defended the eighty-one-year-old Biden against age-related concerns.

During the interview, she said, "I’ve worked with the president for a long time, especially closely as speaker when he was president, and now since then, and he knows– I mean, he’s always on the ball. Anyone who would think that they’re at some advantage because of his age thinks that at their peril because he’s very sharp."

Following Cooper's observation that "many Democrats have concerns though about his age" and "about his mental fitness," citing the recent episode in which Biden seemed to mix up Egypt and Mexico, Pelosi responded, "Well, I think that people do make mistakes. I think his age is one thing, that’s an objective fact. His making mistakes from time to time, we all do that. When the former, ex-president, defeated President Trump made a mistake about one thing or another, he would make the same mistake seven times."

She added, "It wasn’t a slip of the tongue, it was a complete going down a path of something that wasn’t even true, intentionally or otherwise. So I think that, again, age is an objective fact. As I say, it’s all relative. He’s younger than I am, so what do I have to say about his age? But he is, again, knowledgeable, wise."

During her concluding statement, Pelosi said, "Joe Biden has vision, he has knowledge, he has a strategic thinker. This is a very sharp president in terms of his public presentation. If he makes a slip of the tongue here or there, what’s the deal?"

Internet trolls Nancy Pelosi for defending Joe Biden amid age concerns

The statement by Nancy Pelosi was not taken well by people on the internet as some slammed the former House speaker on social media platform X. A user wrote, "When you lose the logic…," while one commented, "Yeah, but Nancy, you’re like the crypt keeper…"

Another person said, "Kids in their 80’s” should be the new tagline for the democrat party," while one added, "In other words, she doesn't want Biden going anywhere. He's the dem candidate and that's that."

A user also wrote, "If she had the courage to tell the truth she would be saying; Biden needs to stay in office as I am scared that If someone really looks into what I have been doing I would be prosecuted."
