On Friday, December 22, 2023, Trump stated that he now considers Harris a "better" option for the Democratic nomination than Biden.

“I think she’d be better than him, actually,” the 77-year-old GOP frontrunner said on 'The Hugh Hewitt Show' on the Salem Radio Network.

This is a significant change in stance from Trump’s previous statement in August 2023 during an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

When asked the same question, Trump had given a less complimentary answer at the time.

What did Donald Trump say about Kamala Harris in recent interview?

According to the New York Post, despite Democratic concerns mounting over Biden's advancing age and declining polling numbers, Trump appeared optimistic about Harris' aspirations to become president on Friday.

Hewitt asked Trump, “Mr. President, if people vote for Joe Biden, are they really voting for Kamala Harris?”

Trump replied, “I think so. I mean, let’s see what happens. I’m not sure that he gets to the starting gate, to be honest. I don’t know … It seems like he’s locked into her for a lot of reasons.”

“It would seem like the Democrats, if he doesn’t run, have to run her,” he continued. “That’s what all of the professionals like you are saying. I’m not sure that that’s correct, but that’s what they’re saying."

The former President added, “Yeah, you’re locked into her. And she might be, I can’t say worse. I think she’d be better than him, actually. I actually think that.”

He referred to the incumbent, the 81-year-old Joe Biden as "grossly incompetent" earlier in the interview, but said that he was as ineffective "25 years ago" as a US senator.

“He’s not fit for office. And I really think he’s a danger to democracy. I really believe that because of his incompetence,” Trump said of his rival.

Trump's statement about Harris being a better option for the Democratic nomination over Biden is a noteworthy shift in his stance and one that has garnered attention from the media and political analysts.

During Trump’s interview with Tucker Carlson on X, he stated that “a lot of people” wanted Harris removed from the Democratic ticket in 2024 due to her public appearances giving a "bad" impression.

“I don’t think other people would stand for it,” Trump said back in August of this year. “She has some bad moments. Her moments are almost as bad as his, I think his are worse actually.”

He also mentioned that she had some bad moments and her way of speaking was "weird" because she spoke in rhyme.

“She speaks in, uh, in rhyme. It’s weird. It’s weird,” Trump noted. “The way she talks, ‘The bus will go here. And then the bus will go there. Because that’s what buses do.’ It’s weird. The whole thing is weird.”

During an October 2022 speech delivered in Seattle, Vice President Harris highlighted the Biden administration's funding of electric school buses, amounting to $1 billion.

In her address at Lumen Field, Harris expressed her fondness for the "nostalgic" sight of a "yellow school bus," which she believed holds significant emotional value for many individuals.

“Who doesn’t love a yellow school bus, right? Can you raise your hand if you love a yellow school bus? Many of us went to school on the yellow school bus, right? It’s part of our experience growing up,” Vice President Harris said in her speech.

She further added, “It’s part of a nostalgia, a memory of the excitement and joy of going to school to be with your favorite teacher, to be with your best friends, and to learn. The school bus takes us there.”

However, Harris has been criticized for her speeches and repetitive definitions in the past, which have been regarded by some as inarticulate.

Critics have pointed out that the vice president's speeches on a wide range of subjects, including ‘artificial intelligence’, ‘culture’, and ‘women's history’, have been subject to ridicule.
