NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Republican Ohio Senator JD Vance contends that if 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley secures the party's nomination, she may struggle to withstand Democratic attacks during his appearance on ‘Fox News Sunday’ with Shannon Bream.

Vance joined Bream to weigh in on the recent poll which reveals that Donald Trump is leading Haley by 19% in New Hampshire.

Following this, Fox News took to X, (formerly Twitter) to share Vance’ take as many people on the internet also weighed their opinions on his remarks.

JD Vance calls out Nikki Haley, says she has ‘baggage’

Fox News shared JD Vance’s interview with Shannon Bream on X which read, “JD Vance predicts Haley wouldn’t survive Dem attacks if elected nominee: ‘Baggage’.”

In the interview, JD Vance claims that Nikki Haley is "the candidate that Democrats haven't teed off on" so far, suggesting that she could face significant challenges if selected as the Republican nominee.

He told Bream, “Nikki does have baggage. She just hasn't faced the onslaught of years of media attacks, of super PAC attacks that Donald Trump has faced. And frankly, the fact that Trump is still standing and still leading in the polls against Joe Biden suggests he has real political resilience.”

In a segment, Bream featured a clip of her questioning New Hampshire voters about their preferences leading up to the state's primary on Tuesday.

One voter expressed support for Haley, citing her as a choice with "no baggage."

Vance, acting as a surrogate for the Trump campaign, disagreed, asserting that Haley indeed carries "baggage."

Vance argued that, unlike Trump, Democrats have not subjected Haley to the same level of attacks in recent years.

He added, “I know a lot of people who are choosing Nikki Haley think she's the low baggage candidate. In reality, she's the candidate that Democrats haven't teed off on, but they will tee off on her if she's the nominee,” stating that she “won't be” the nominee.

Vance further said, “But if she is [the nominee], she will face exactly what Donald Trump has faced for the past six years, and I don't think she'll survive, and I certainly don't think she'll win the presidency through it. That's why we need to elect the guy who's shown some resilience. That's why we need to nominate Donald Trump.”

Trump who solidified his position as the leading contender for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential race after securing a decisive victory in the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses last week is currently directing his attention toward the upcoming New Hampshire primary scheduled for Tuesday.

Bream also asked Vance, “There are a couple of newspaper editorials today endorsing Nikki Haley, telling people if you're independent get out, ‘save the country and vote in that GOP primary'. I mean, that's a substantial group of people here. How concerned are you about them showing up and not choosing President Trump on Tuesday?”

He responded saying, “I think a lot of them are going to vote for Donald Trump and also liberal… many of them from Massachusetts who are moving to New Hampshire, they're never going to vote for a Republican nominee, even if it's Nikki Haley.”

He continued, “They're just trying to play spoiler to Donald Trump. But I think Republicans really have to ask ourselves, do we want liberal suburbanites from Massachusetts to choose our nominee? Or do we want to choose our nominee as Republicans and independent-minded conservatives? I think if we choose our nominee, Donald Trump is going to win, and he's going to win handily.”

Internet weighs in on JD Vance’s statements

Many X users expressed their opinion after JD Vance called out Nikki Haley.

One person wrote, “Lol right so let’s give them a layup with Trumps 91 felonies,” and another slammed Haley, “She won’t survive period.  She is a woman and a woman won’t get elected as President. Not yet.”

One more person backed Haley, “She’s the only one who dares to shows Trump’s true nature. She has more of a spine than all of you,” and another shared a similar opinion, “She would give Biden a run for his money. Trump will not.”

An X user simply called out Vance adding, “Why listen to pundits? How about news for a change,” and another said, “Senator JD Vance really hitting his stride as a national figure.”
