SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: Melinda French Gates has parted ways with the Gates Foundation and has instead decided to run her own charity trust.

“After careful thought and reflection, I have decided to resign from my role as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,” Melinda said in a statement.

She will be provided $12.5 billion in funds on her exit and revealed the agreement between her and ex-husband Bill Gates that she will "commit" the amount to work "on behalf of women and families.”

Bill in his separate statement thanked Melinda for “her critical contributions to the Foundation from its very beginning.”

“[Melinda] has been instrumental in shaping our strategies and initiatives, significantly impacting global health and gender equality,” he added.

“I am sorry to see her leave, but I am sure she will have a huge impact in her future philanthropic work,” said Gates, whose net worth is around $153 billion.

The Microsoft founder also stated that he is “fully committed to the Foundation’s work across all our strategies, and to realizing the opportunities we have to continue improving the lives of millions around the world.”

Bill and Melinda called off their 27 years of marriage in 2021, surprising everyone. Other than his extra-marital affairs, Bill spending time with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein made matters worse, reports the New York Post.
